HUSKER VOLLEYBALL SET TO BATTLE PURDUE:

The No. 3 Nebraska volleyball team is back on the road for its next three matches, beginning with a 7 p.m. (CT) showdown at No. 12 Purdue on Wednesday. The Huskers and Boilermakers will meet in Holloway Gymnasium for a nationally televised Big Ten Network broadcast.

Nebraska (16-1, 8-0 Big Ten) is riding a nine-match win streak and is the only Big Ten team without a conference loss after eight matches played. The Huskers swept No. 14 Penn State and Northwestern at home over the weekend. The Huskers’ last four wins have all been sweeps. Nebraska’s 16-1 start to the season is its best since 2016, when the Big Red went 26-1 before a Nov. 23 loss at Minnesota.

No. 12 Purdue is 15-3 overall and 6-2 in Big Ten play. The Boilermakers won 14 of their first 15 matches but have dropped two of their last three, including a 3-0 loss to Maryland on Sunday at home.

Pregame begins on KGFW tonight at 6:30 PM with first serve set for 7 PM.

FROST METRICS DISPUTED AND RELEASED TUESDAY NIGHT:

Nebraska athletics director Trev Alberts supplied details about the necessary metrics that had been set for Scott Frost heading into the 2022 season.

It came up during Alberts’ hour-long show on the Huskers Radio Network after a Lincoln judge ruled on Tuesday the athletic department had to reveal that info after USA Today sued the university when denied a request for that info. The newspaper believed it fit within the scope of public records. The Husker athletics department is required to give out that info within the next seven days due to the ruling.

Given that, Alberts supplied what may be the main information to know during the radio appearance.

According to Alberts, Frost was required to win a minimum of six games while making a bowl game in order to retain his $5 million contract.

SPORTS NIGHTLY COMMENTS – TREV ALBERTS:

ALBERTS – FROST METRICS REVEALED:

Nebraska Athletic Director Trev Alberts spoke on Tuesday’s Sports Nightly about Scott Frost’s metrics in his updated contract prior to his September firing that became required by a Lancaster County judge to release to the public due to a suit filed by USA Today…

Nebraska had the agreement that if Frost would have won the 6 games and made it to a bowl game, the University would revert back to Frost’s original $5 million contract.

ALBERTS – PLAYERS ARE MAKING NEBRASKA FANS PROUD:

Athletic Director for Nebraska Trev Alberts opened up his Sports Nightly appearance on Tuesday with positive remarks regarding the fight in the Husker Football team…

Nebraska enters a bye week this weekend before battling Top 25 Illinois at home, followed by Minnesota, Top 5 Michigan, Wisconsin, and Iowa to close out the regular season.

ALBERTS – STILL SOME TICKETS TO SELL FOR STREAK:

Nebraska Athletic Director Trev Alberts spoke on Sports Nightly about the Memorial Stadium sellout streak, saying despite some reports there are still some tickets left to purchase…

Nebraska’s sellout streak has continued throughout the Indiana contest, with home games remaining against Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

NEBRASKA WOMEN’S HOOPS NAMED TO PRESEASON TOP 25:

The Nebraska women’s basketball team will enter the 2022-23 season at No. 22 in the Associated Press Preseason Poll.

It is Nebraska’s first Preseason AP Top 25 ranking since 2014. The Huskers are coming off a 24-9 campaign when they finished No. 23 in the NET rankings after earning a trip to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals. NU, which was a No. 8 seed in the 2022 NCAA Tournament, returned five starters from last year’s unit before graduate guard Sam Haiby suffered a season-ending knee injury in September.

Despite the loss of Haiby, a two-time All-Big Ten guard, the Huskers previously added transfer Maddie Krull to the roster, a two-year starting guard at South Dakota, who helped lead the Coyotes to the 2022 NCAA Sweet Sixteen.

Nebraska is scheduled to play 10 regular-season games in 2022-23 against teams in the AP Preseason Top 25, including No. 4 Iowa (2), No. 11 Indiana, No. 13 Virginia Tech, No. 14 Ohio State, No. 17 Maryland (2), No. 21 (Creighton) and No. 25 Michigan (2). The Huskers will also play a Dec. 21 home game against Kansas, which was among the top teams also receiving votes (T28th).

SHELLEY ADDED TO AWARDS WATCHLIST:

Nebraska guard Jaz Shelley was honored Tuesday as one of 20 candidates nationally on the 2023 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Watch List.

The Ann Meyers Drysdale Award honors the nation’s top shooting guard in NCAA Division I women’s basketball.

In her first season at Nebraska in 2021-22, Shelley made one of the greatest impacts of any Big Ten newcomer, earning second-team All-Big Ten honors and a spot on the Big Ten All-Defensive Team. One of the nation’s top long-range shooters, Shelley set the Nebraska record and tied the Big Ten Tournament record by connecting on nine three-pointers in NU’s second-round tournament win over Illinois.

Over the final six games of 2021-22, Shelley averaged 19.5 points and 4.0 made threes per game.

PHILLIES TOP PADRES TO OPEN NLCS:

Bryce Harper hit another postseason home run — no surprise there — and then Kyle Schwarber topped him by launching a shot that amazed even his teammates.

Harper hit his fourth homer this postseason and Schwarber hit a jaw-dropping, 488-foot drive that carried the Philadelphia Phillies over the San Diego Padres 2-0 Tuesday night to open the all-wild card NL Championship Series.

Zack Wheeler was awesome, too, combining with two relievers on a one-hitter for Philadelphia. The Phillies managed just three hits off Yu Darvish and the San Diego bullpen — the combined four hits matched the fewest ever in a postseason game.

YANKEES DOWN GUARDIANS, PLAY ASTROS IN ALCS:

Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge rocked Cleveland with early homers, and Nestor Cortes and the New York Yankees rolled into another AL Championship Series matchup with the Houston Astros.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone won his gamble by starting Cortes on three days’ rest over Jameson Taillon, making the late switch after Monday night’s rain caused a postponement.

Civale had trouble throwing strikes, and the Guardians never recovered from Stanton’s three-run homer just 21 pitches in.
