The Kearney Volunteer Fire Department has issued a burn ban until there is measurable moisture. Warm conditions and low humidity can cause vegetation to dry quickly.
There is always a statewide open burn ban, but a permit can be obtained by a local fire chief on a form prescribed by the State of Nebraska.
KVFD will not be issuing Open Burn permits in an effort to prioritize the live and property of citizens.
Residents are discouraged from burning in burn barrels during this ban.
Extreme caution should always be used when using burning barrels and the barrels should have a screen on top to prevent flying burning debris.
