LOPER WOMEN’S HOOPS BEGIN SEASON WITH EXHIBITION AT IOWA:

The Nebraska Kearney women’s basketball team starts the 2022-23 season with a Halloween Treat as it takes on the sixth-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes Friday in Iowa City.

This marks the Lopers 25th exhibition game against a Division I opponent since 2001. UNK has also squared off against Nebraska, Nebraska Omaha, Colorado, Creighton, Drake and Northern Colorado.

This will likely be the largest crowd a UNK women’s basketball team has ever played in front of and also the best team the Lopers have faced. Veteran head coach Lisa Bluder has a squad picked to win the Big 10, challenge for the program’s second-ever Final Four appearance and is led by All-World shooter Caitlin Clark and All-American post Monika Czinano.

UNK counters the high flyin’ ‘Hawks with a grizzled bunch of Antelopes as five fifth-year seniors have combined for 562 games played, nearly 13,000 minutes of action and a bunch of records and honors

LOPER FOOTBALL CIRCLES IN ON NORTHWEST HOMECOMING MATCHUP:

The 31st/22nd-ranked Nebraska Kearney football team has quite the Homecoming foe as longtime national powerhouse Northwest Missouri State visits Ron & Carol Cope Stadium this Saturday.

The game between two 6-2 squads kicks off at 2 p.m. This is basically a “playoff elimination” game as Super Region 3 is loaded with a bevy of teams that’ll finish between 11-0 and 9-2.

No. 13/14 Northwest, with a defense scarier than Freddy Kreuger, leads D2 in rushing yards per game (31.9) and rushing yards per carry (1.2).

Offensively, QB Mike Hohensee leads what’s been a banged-up unit. He was 14 of 18 for 270 yards and three TD’s (9, 15, and 55) last year vs. UNK while also rushing for 68 yards and a score. The fourth-year junior is completing 70% of his passes this year and had 13 TD tosses.

UNK comes in leading the MIAA in every rushing category; yards (271.8), yards per carry (5.8), TD’s (23) and attempts (372/46.5 per game). The option-based Lopers run 77% of the time it has the ball with QB TJ Davis at 874 yards and 11 scores with five backs combining for 1,079 yards and eight TD’s.
