NEBRASKA MEN’S HOOPS FAIL TO OVERCOME SECOND HALF SURGE:
Keisei Tominaga led NU with 15 points, but St. John’s used a pair of decisive runs early in the second half to post a 70-50 victory in the Gavitt Tipoff Games.

Tominaga hit 5-of-8 shots, including 3-of-6 3-pointers, but the Huskers shot just 29.7 percent from the field and committed 17 turnovers that led to 21 Red Storm points. 

Nebraska led 27-20 at the break, but St. John’s stormed out of the locker room and used a 14-3 spurt in the opening four minutes to take the 34-30 lead.

With the loss, Nebraska falls to 1-4 in Gavitt Games contests, including 0-2 against St. John’s. The Huskers return to action this Sunday, Nov. 20, when they host Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Tipoff is set for 2:30 p.m.

 

LOPER WOMEN DOWN CHADRON:

Super senior forward Elisa Backes scored 22 points and Nebraska Kearney led almost from start to finish in a 71-60 win at Chadron State Thursday night.

UNK (4-1) is now 60-13 all-time against the Eagles (0-4) who lost to Wayne State on Wednesday.

The Lopers head to Colorado School of Mines (2-0) on Saturday night. The Orediggers were picked to win the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conf. (RMAC) this year.

 

UNK MEN’S HOOPS HITS 14 TRIPLES IN HOME WIN:

The Nebraska Kearney men’s basketball team scored 56 second half points, thanks to 68 percent shooting, to down Haskell Indian Nations (Kan.), 94-87, Thursday night at the Health & Sports Center.

The Lopers start the year 2-0 at home while the Fighting Indians from Lawrence, Kan., remain 2-6 as this was an exhibition game per NAIA rules.

UNK faces Wayne who is 2-1 after a 76-68 home win over York University on Wednesday night. Wayne comes to town Saturday at 2 p.m.

 

LOPER VOLLEYBALL FACES ST. PAUL FOR NCAA TOURNAMENT:

The now 13th-ranked Nebraska Kearney volleyball team is in Wayne this Friday afternoon for the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The uber-tough Central Regional features eight nationally-ranked teams with the seventh-seeded Lopers (28-5) facing 3rd-ranked and second-seeded Concordia-St. Paul (26-5). First serve from Rice Auditorium will be no sooner than 2:30 p.m.

The winner UNK/CU winner plays again Saturday at 5 p.m. against the winner of Washburn and Minnesota-Duluth. 

 

SIX-MAN TITLE GAME RETURNS TO KEARNEY TONIGHT:

The Class D6 title game continues in Kearney this weekend as Pawnee City battles Lincoln Parkview Christian tonight at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at 7 PM. 

Pawnee City has had a run of upsets to make an appearance in the title game, as Parkview Christian earned a revenge game win over SEM last week to earn a spot in the six man title game. 

 

HUSKER VOLLEYBALL FACES IOWA TO CLOSE BIG TEN ROAD SLATE:

The Nebraska volleyball team heads into the final two weeks of the regular season with another Friday-Sunday pair of matches. The sixth-ranked Huskers will play at Iowa on Friday at 6 p.m. before hosting No. 19 Purdue on Sunday at Noon. 

With two weeks left in the regular season, the Huskers are in third place in the Big Ten standings at 14-2, behind Wisconsin and Ohio State at 15-1. 

Iowa is 8-19 (2-14 Big Ten) and snapped a nine-match losing streak with a 3-0 win over Rutgers on Sunday.

Interim Head Coach for Nebraska Football Mickey Joseph spoke to the media after Thursday’s practice and said that quarterback Casey Thompson looks like he’s ready to roll against Wisconsin…

Nebraska has been without Thompson for the past 2 ½ games, only scoring 16 points in that stretch. 

 

JOSEPH – THOMPSON’S DECISION TO RETURN:

Nebraska interim Head Coach Mickey Joseph addressed the media after Thursday’s practice and reiterated the decision for Casey Thompson’s return to QB1 is settled on the quarterback’s own shoulders…

Nebraska is hoping to get a better scoring chance with Thompson, as the Texas transfer has continued to be the passing leader in the past three games despite not playing in two of the contests. 

 

JOSEPH – CASEY’S RETURN GIVES MORE CONFIDENCE TO OFFENSE:

Mickey Joseph was happy to announce the probable return of quarterback Casey Thompson for Saturday’s matchup with Wisconsin, and spoke about the difference his presence makes on the offense…

The Huskers aim to take down Wisconsin to close out Memorial Stadium as kickoff is set for 11 AM on Saturday.

Husker fans have continued to support the struggling team, as another sellout is expected for Saturday’s matchup with Wisconsin at Memorial Stadium.

Mickey Joseph spoke after Thursday’s practice, and gave an overall preview of the vaunted Badger defense…

Nebraska has faced three consecutive defenses rated in the Top 25 nationally in total defense, including Illinois, Minnesota, and Michigan. 

 

JOSEPH – NO MICKEY MAGIC, TEAM HAS TO PLAY 60 MINUTES:

Mickey Joseph squashed any ideas of a magical performance on Saturday during his Thursday press conference, as he stated the message to the team is to keep playing tough and continue the fight…

The Huskers have held leads in two of the last three contests – all losses – and aims to win their final home game of the year at Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
