A 17-year-old teen that was in possession of a BB Gun that placed Kearney Highschool under lockdown Thursday has been placed at a Juvenile Center.
On Friday, the Kearney Police Department released an update on the situation stemming from Thursday’s lockdown of KHS.
The teen that caused the lockdown has been placed at Northeast Nebraska Juvenile Services Center, and charged for Terroristic Threats, Possession of a Weapon in Commission of a Felony, & Carrying a Concealed weapon.
On Thursday November 17, Kearney High went under lockdown after a report of a student in possession of a handgun. Lockdown protocol was immediately followed. An on-duty KPD School Resource Officer was notified of the situation and found the student had left campus.
KPD responded and located the 17-year-old male student off campus walking near Yanney Park. The student was taken into custody and found in possession of a realistic BB gun.
Police confirmed there was no more threat present, and school officials were notified, and the lockdown was lifted as school resumed. Kearney Public Schools notified parents of the instance.
**UPDATE** Working with the Buffalo County Attorney’s Office & Juvenile Probation, a 17 Year Old student was arrested & placed at Northeast Nebraska Juvenile Services Center for Terroristic Threats, Possession of a Weapon in Commission of a Felony, & Carrying a Concealed weapon.
