HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES BEGIN IN LINCOLN:
After a tough and talented season of high school football, the 2022 NSAA Football championships begin today at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.
The first state championship was won in Kearney on Friday, as Parkview Christian crushed Pawnee City in the D6-Championship 50-25 for their first state football title in school history.
Beginning today at 10:15 AM, 8-Man begins the fun with Class D2 as Howells-Dodge faces Hitchcock County. Continuing 8-Man action at 2:45 PM in Class D1 has Neligh-Oakdale and Clarkson/Leigh.
The night contest under the lights begins at 7:15 PM in a rematch of last year’s Class A championship between Gretna and Omaha Westside.
Tuesday’s schedule includes C2 Cedar Cahtolic and Norfolk Catholic, Class C1 with Aurora and Pierce, while Class B wraps the season with Bennington and Gross Catholic. All games can be watched on Nebraska Public Media.
HUSKER VOLLEYBALL CLOSES STRONG IN SWEEP OF PURDUE:
The No. 6 Nebraska volleyball team picked up its sixth straight home sweep with a 25-22, 25-20, 25-11 sweep of No. 19 Purdue on Sunday.
Madi Kubik had a season-high 17 kills and hit .311 with 11 digs to lift the Huskers (24-3, 16-2 Big Ten). Lindsay Krause and Ally Batenhorst each added seven kills. Nebraska hit .192 for the match and held Purdue to a season-low .016 hitting percentage. The Huskers have now won 20 consecutive sets at the Devaney Center.
Nicklin Hames had 22 assists and six digs and became the first Nebraska setter to eclipse 5,000 career kills.
At 16-2, the Huskers are alone in second place in the Big Ten standings with two matches remaining. Wisconsin leads the league at 17-1. Ohio State suffered a loss at home to Indiana on Sunday afternoon to fall to 15-3 in conference play.
The Huskers host the Badgers in a pivotal match on Friday at 7 p.m.
NEBRASKA MEN RETURN TO WINNING WAYS AT PBA:
Juwan Gary scored a season-high 17 points, as Nebraska used a key second-half run and a strong defensive effort in the final 20 minutes to defeat Arkansas Pine-Bluff, 82-58, on Sunday afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Blaise Keita notched his first career double-double for the Big Red with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Huskers return to action Thursday, Nov. 24, as they travel to Orlando for the ESPN Events Invitational against former Big 12 rival Oklahoma. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.

UNK WOMEN UPSET MINES IN COLORADO:
The Nebraska Kearney women’s basketball team made 21 free throws and got 30 combined points from guards Klaire Kirsch and Trinity Law to knock off No. 11/20 Colorado School of Mines, 59-47, Saturday night in Golden.
UNK (4-1) improves to 35-10 all-time against an Orediggers squad (2-1) that went 13-1 in Lockridge Arena last season.
To beat the ‘Diggers for a second straight year, the Lopers had to do it without leading scorers Elisa Backes (Salina, Kan.) and Shiloh McCool (Pleasant Hill, Ia.) who were saddled with foul trouble all night.
UNK hosts NAIA Graceland University of Iowa Wednesday at 2 p.m.
LOPER MEN FALL TO WAYNE AT HOME:
Super seniors Jordan Janssen and Nate Mohr combined for 46 points and Wayne State used a late run to get past Nebraska Kearney, 77-67, Saturday afternoon at the Health & Sports Center.
The Wildcats improve to 3-1 while UNK is now 2-3. The Lopers have just one game this week, a Tuesday night road affair at Chadron State (0-3).
NEBRASKA WOMEN BITTEN BY BULLDOGS:
Alexis Markowski scored a game-high 21 points, but Nebraska fell behind early and was unable to recover in an 80-62 women’s basketball loss to Drake at the Knapp Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Huskers slipped to 2-2 while the Bulldogs improved to 2-1 on the year.
Isabelle Bourne contributed nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds inside for the Big Red, while Jaz Shelley pitched in nine points and six assists.
Nebraska returns to non-conference home action with its first-ever clash with Tarleton on Tuesday. Tip-off between the Huskers and Texans at Pinnacle Bank Arena is set for 6 p.m.
STORM DROP SHOOTOUT TO BUCCANEERS:
The Tri-City Storm dropped a shootout decision to the Des Moines Buccaneers by a final score of 5-4 Saturday night at the Viaero Center.
Evan Werner (2), Tanner Adams, and Cameron O’Neill scored the Storm’s goals in the loss. Tri-City returns to action on Wednesday with a road matchup against the Lincoln Stars. Puck drop for the rivalry game is scheduled for 7:05pm CT.
HUSKER WRESTLING CLAIMS NAVY CLASSIC TITLE:
Five wrestlers claimed individual titles to help the Nebraska wrestling team grab the individual title at the Navy Classic in Maryland on Saturday.
This team title marks the Huskers’ second all-time Navy Classic win and first since 1997. Individually, Boo Dryden (133), Brock Hardy (141), Peyton Robb (157), Mikey Labriola (174) and Silas Allred (197) won their respective weight classes.
Up next, the Huskers will return to action next month at the Cliff Keen Invite, Dec. 2-3 in Las Vegas.
UNK CROSS COUNTRY HAS HISTORIC DAY AT CENTRAL REGIONAL:
The Nebraska Kearney cross country teams finished second (men) and fourth (women) at the 2022 NCAA Central Regional Saturday afternoon in Joplin, Mo.
Individually, the men had all five of its scorers in the Top 25.
The UNK women had its top five all finish in the Top 34.
The top three teams on each side advance to the NCAA Championships Dec. 2 (Fri.) in Seattle; 10 more teams will receive at-large bids when those are handed out on Monday (Nov. 18). Additionally, individuals not on an advancing team will also head to Washington (24 total; 16 auto and eight at-large).
The last UNK women’s cross team to reach a national meet was the 1987 squad who placed 20th at the NAIA Championships in Parkside, Wisc.
AQUALOPERS SET MEDLEY RECORDS IN AUGUSTANA INVITE:
The Nebraska Kearney Aqualopers broke four school records and had 12 other all-time Top 10 efforts at the Augustana Invitational this weekend in Sioux Falls.
USD led the women’s standings (1,664 points) with rival SDSU (1,082) close behind. UNK tallied 53 points to come in ahead of both St. Mary and Minnesota-Morris.
On Friday the 400-medley relay team of Kansas freshman Gabby Grace, Columbus junior Emily Miksch, Colorado sophomore Karley Bennettand Colorado freshman Joy Graziano turned in a 4:01.90 to place 13th. It was UNK’s highest finish in the relays with the time easily besting the school mark of 4:03.52
UNK is now off until January when it heads to California for a training trip and the OC Invitational at D2-member Concordia-Irvine.
