NEBRASKA FOOTBALL – MATT RHULE PRESS CONFERENCE:
RHULE – FAMILY PROCESS SINCE THE BEGINNING:
New Nebraska Football Head Coach Matt Rhule opened up his press conference comments on Monday on his first day in scarlet and cream talking about the hiring process and how it was a family affair from the beginning, especially with the support of his wife…
Rhule added that his family snuck into Lincoln on a Husker game day earlier this season to see if the town, state, and campus would work for their family. Rhule is the 31st head coach in Nebraska Football history.
RHULE – PASSION FOR FOOTBALL HAS BEEN REBORN:
Matt Rhule was named the 31st Head Coach for Nebraska Football officially on Monday afternoon with his introductory press conference. Rhule had recently been fired from the NFL’s Carolina Panthers, but said after meeting with Athletic Director Trev Alberts his football love returned…
Nebraska signed Rhule to an eight year contract worth $72 million – making him the second highest paid coach in the Big Ten and ninth nationally.
RHULE – REBUILDING WILL BE TOUGH, BUT TEAM WILL BE TOUGH:
Matt Rhule had his introductory press conference on Monday afternoon for the Nebraska Football program, and in his opening statements he iterated to Husker faithful it would not be easy to get the program back to its traditional roots…
Nebraska has not been to a bowl game since 2016 when Mike Riley was the head coach for the Huskers.
RHULE – TRADITION IS BUILT IN GREAT LEADERSHIP, ALIGNMENT:
Matt Rhule won the press conference on Monday afternoon, speaking brilliantly in front of over 400 media members and fans at the Hawks Practice Facility as he was officially named the new head coach for Husker Football. Rhule spoke about the Huskers tradition in his opening comments…
Nebraska has not been to a conference championship game since 2012, has not had a winning season nor a bowl appearance since 2016, and hasn’t had a conference championship since 1999 in the Big 12.
RHULE – NEBRASKA IS THE RIGHT FIT; IT CAN BE DONE:
Matt Rhule was introduced as the 31st full-time head coach of Nebraska Football on Monday afternoon. With his opening comments, Rhule added that he took the job because the Huskers can get back to their winning ways…
Nebraska aims to get back to winning starting with conference play, as this season’s 3-6 mark in the Big Ten was the best conference record since 2016.
RHULE – HONORING FANS WITH A TOUGH TEAM:
Matt Rhule hit all the chords on Monday afternoon’s press conference, hitting the heart strings of Husker Nation as he expertly described what his team will be playing for each and every Saturday…
Nebraska looks to rebound quickly as Rhule is the master of the college football rebuild – taking Temple to 10 wins in under four seasons and Baylor to 11 wins in three.
UNITED STATES PUNCHES TICKET OUT OF GROUP PLAY WITH WIN:
Christian Pulisic scored while crashing headfirst into the goalkeeper in the 38th minute and the United States advanced to the knockout round of the World Cup with a 1-0 win over Iran on Tuesday in a politically charged rematch of their famous meeting a quarter-century ago.
Pulisic sprawled on the field and was lying in the goal for about three minutes as he received treatment from the U.S. staff. He reentered the game but was replaced at the start of the second half.
Back in the World Cup after missing the 2018 tournament, the U.S. opened with draws against Wales and England and needed a victory to move on to the round of 16.
The Americans finished second in Group B with five points, two behind England, and will play the Netherlands on Saturday with the chance to reach the quarterfinals for the first time since 2002.
NELSON EARNS SECOND TEAM ALL CONFERENCE; TWO OTHERS EARN HONORABLE MENTION:
Three Nebraska football players earned recognition on the All-Big Ten defensive team Tuesday.
Junior edge rusher Garrett Nelson was a second-team All-Big Ten pick by the conference coaches and the media. Junior linebacker Luke Reimer received honorable-mention accolades on both teams, while junior cornerback Quinton Newsome was an honorable-mention pick by the coaches.
Nelson, a co-captain from Scottsbluff, led the team in tackles for loss with nine and in sacks with 5½. He finished the season with 65 tackles (35 solo), two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble.
Conference offensive teams will be announced Wednesday.
CHANGES ONGOING FOR NEBRASKA FOOTBALL STAFF:
Changes have already taken place for the Rhule regime at Nebraska Football, as last night it was announced that Zach Duval and Dave Ellis of the Huskers strength and conditioning program – as well as the performance nutrition program – have been let go.
Duval, the 2017 national strength and conditioning coach of the year, was brought to Nebraska from UCF by former Husker head coach Scott Frost. Duval was paid $425,000 annually by NU.
Meanwhile, Ellis is regarded as a pioneer in the field of sports nutrition, with a history of innovation that dates back before he started Nebraska’s nutrition department in 1994. With a salary of $266,590 annually, he was one of the highest-paid nutritionists in college athletics.
