Lights are up at the Yanney Heritage Park this winter season.

The Kearney Parks and Recreation Department kicked off their 5th Annual Holiday Light Festival last night at Yanney Park with lights and displays decorated throughout the park.

Several businesses, organizations and schools participated in the annual tradition by displaying their Christmas cheer in the park. The variety of displays ranged from colorful lights spiraling trees to hand made ornaments made by students with holidays messages. Along with the colorful lights were familiar faces, like the Grinch, Scooby-Doo, and Jack Skelton.

Opening night was well attended despite the bitter cold. Families, friends, and dog walkers were among the those that attended. The Parks and Rec Department also provided hot cocoa as part of its special theme nights.

The special theme nights are as follows:

  •  Hot Chocolate Nights on December 7, 10, 16
  • Candy Cane Nights on December 9, 17
  • First Responder Night on December 12
  • Cookie Night on December 14
  • Jingle Bell Night on December 15
  • Trackless Train Night on December 10, 17
  • Glow Necklace Nights on December 13, 16
  • Santa Night on December 16

The Holiday Light Festival will be open December 7 to December 17 from 5:30pm – 8:30pm. Mittens, hats, scarfs and warm coats are highly encouraged to have a good time while strolling through.
