UNK will be eliminating 6 faculty positions following a review. The analysis took a total of two years, and as a result, four faculty will be terminated in 2024. Those that have been notified may continue their positions until May 2024. Two additional jobs that are unfilled will also be eliminated, bringing the reduction to six positions.
Chancellor Doug Kristensen informed the campus community via email: “UNK has for decades prioritized academic quality, and that begins with our faculty. We value the people who deliver on the educational promise of the institution. But UNK is not immune from long-term trends in higher-education enrollment, and sustaining the size of our faculty is no longer feasible.”
All positions being eliminated are in the College of Arts and Sciences. The four faculty being impacted will be offered opportunities to be placed in open positions that they may be qualified for. Tenured faculty have two years of recall rights as well.
