A train struck a semi trailer hauling grain Tuesday morning.
On Tuesday at approximately 9 a.m. a Buffalo County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a train strike a semi trailer while on patrol.
A semi had been hauling a grain trailer while driving north bound through a railroad crossing at the Gibbon Road/Highway 30 intersection when the vehicle malfunctioned on the tracks.
The semi was unable to get off the tracks, however the driver was able to safely exit the semi.
An eastbound Union Pacific train then struck the rear end of the grain trailer.
Gibbon EMS responded to the scene, and contacted the train conductor who was found uninjured.
The intersection was closed for nearly five hours for cleanup. Damage to the grain trailer is estimated to be $20,000, and the train is estimated to have received $10,000 in damage.
