The game could not have started colder for the traveling Bearcats, as Kearney could not keep pace with the Links from the outlet. A high-flying offense and tenacious defense stifled the Bearcats early, as only Ben Johnson would land a field goal and Jack Dahlgren added a free throw for the only scores in the first quarter. Meanwhile, Lincoln High added scores from six different Links, controlling the first up 17-3.

The second quarter began a slow climb back for the Bearcats, as Kearney outscored Lincoln High 15-9 to cut the deficit to 26-18 by halftime. Kearney corralled the Link offense and found more scoring from Karter Lee knocking down the first three pointer for the Bearcats in the contest, while Asher Endorf added five points himself and Dahlgren added two lay-ins for four points.
