MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL CANCELED FOR PLAYER IN CRITICAL CONDITION:

Buffalo safety Damar Hamlin had his heartbeat restored on the field after suffering cardiac arrest during the team’s game Monday night against the Bengals, and he is currently in critical condition at a Cincinnati hospital, the Bills said in a statement early Tuesday morning.

CPR was administered to Hamlin, 24, on the field for multiple minutes after he collapsed following his tackle of Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. Hamlin received oxygen, according to the ESPN broadcast, as he was placed in the ambulance and taken off the field some 16 minutes after he collapsed and then was driven to nearby University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The majority of the Bills team remained at Paycor Stadium well into Monday night. The team, including all players outside of Hamlin, then departed shortly after midnight and returned to Buffalo.

The chilling scene midway through the opening quarter of the Monday night showdown between the two NFL powers led the league to postpone the game about 90 minutes after kickoff. There is no word as of this morning as to any follow-up in terms of rescheduling the contest from the NFL.

LOPER WOMEN FALL TO CENTRAL MISSOURI:

The 11th-ranked Central Missouri Jennies had four starters score in double figures and tallied the final five points to edge No. 26 Nebraska Kearney, 55-50, Monday night in Warrensburg.

UCM (11-0, 7-0) remains perfect and records its second straight last second win as they edged No. 29 Fort Hays State, 63-62, on Saturday afternoon. The Lopers (13-3, 6-2) have now lost three games by a combined 14 points and fall to 2-13 all-time against the Jens.

Things don’t get any easier for UNK as Pittsburg State (10-3, 5-2) and No. 9 Missouri Southern (12-2, 4-2) come to Kearney this weekend. Pitt went 12 of 22 from behind the arc tonight in Joplin to down the rival Lions, 87-79.

UNK MEN DROP CONTEST IN WARRENSBURG:

Ten different players got into the scoring column and Central Missouri used strong defense to beat Nebraska Kearney, 62-48, Monday night in Warrensburg.

The Mules (7-6, 3-4) win a third straight over UNK (2-11, 0-7) with the two meeting again on Feb. 9 in the Health & Sports Center.

UNK hosts Pittsburg State Thursday night. The Gorillas (5-8, 2-5 lost at rival Missouri Southern tonight, 84-63.

HUSKERS FOOTBALL FINALIZES COACHING STAFF WITH FORMER PANTHER HIRES:

Nebraska football has completed its on-field coaching staff by filling the final two full-time assistant coaching positions: Rob Dvoracek is joining the program as the Huskers’ linebackers coach, and Garret McGuire is being added as the receivers coach.

They will both join the staff following the Panthers’ final game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.

Dvoracek and McGuire will now be the sixth and seventh coaches to have worked for Rhule on the Panthers staff who will also join him in Lincoln.

OC Marcus Satterfield, DL coach Terrance Knighton, secondary coach Evan Cooper, special teams coordinator Ed Foley and head strength & conditioning coach Corey Campbell all spent at least one season with Rhule in Carolina.

HUSKER MEN’S HOOPS AWAIT BIG TEN TILT WITH SPARTY:

Nebraska looks to extend its two-game win streak on Tuesday, Jan. 3, as the Huskers travel to East Lansing, Mich., for a matchup with the Michigan State Spartans. Tip Off from the Breslin Center is set for shortly after 6 p.m.

Nebraska (8-6, 0-2 Big Ten) comes off its best defensive effort of the season in a 66-50 win over Iowa. The Huskers held Iowa to a 26 percent shooting while holding the Hawkeyes to a season-low 50 points, 33 below their season average. Nebraska took control with a 20-0 first-half run, holding the Hawkeyes without a field goal for nearly nine minutes.

Tonight’s game at Michigan State is the Huskers’ eighth game away from home in the first 15 contests. Michigan State (9-4, 1-1 Big Ten) returns to Big Ten play following an 89-68 win over Buffalo on Dec. 30.
