KEARNEY -Lincoln East’s Gabe Thurman and Cole Toline pinned back-to-back Bearcats in the start of a dominating 50-18 victory over Kearney on Thursday night. Story and coverage by Alex Hammeke.
Starting the dual off in the 132lb weight class, Kearney would score their first points of the dual when ninth ranked Perry Swarm pinned Jayden Carlson in the 145lb weight class match, and two matches later Ethan Kowalek would score three dual points for the Bearcats on a 7-3 decision against Mason Miigerl in the 160lb weight class.
The heavyweight classes would not be kind to Kearney, as Lincoln East would win the next five matches, including three pins.
The lone matchup in the dual featuring ranked wrestlers that Kearney won was at the 106lb weight class, when Jack Sponenburgh won over Lincoln East’s Leland Sindel in a 9-7 decision
While Kearney fell in the dual, the Bearcats got the last laugh on the mat with a pin in the 126lb weight class, with Jackson Lavene winning in a fall over the Spartans’ Josh Shaner.

Kearney will compete in Lincoln North Star’s Gator Invite today and will take on North Platte in dual action next Thursday (12th) at Kearney High School.
