The Nebraska Kearney women’s basketball team moved up three spots to 13th in the latest edition of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II Top 25 poll.

The Lopers (18-3) have won five in a row heading into weekend home games vs. Northwest Missouri (Thursday night) and No. 30 Missouri Western (Saturday afternoon). MWSU handed UNK a 68-65 setback in early December.

Matt Rhule and the Nebraska staff have added Nashville (Tenn.) wide receiver Demitrius Bell to the commitment list. The four-star recruit  took an official visit to Nebraska this weekend and has also been on official visits to Kentucky and Michigan State.

Things moved very quickly for Bell and Nebraska. Matt Rhule and his staff were in-home with Bell on 1/16, and Bell was in Lincoln the following weekend for an official visit.

Nebraska has been showing interest in Bell for months leading back to Mickey Joseph as the interim head coach. The Huskers were supposed to host Bell for a game visit against Indiana, but Bell suffered an injury and couldn’t make the trip.

Fargo’s Matej Marinov, one of the top goaltenders in the USHL, stands 12-0-0 in 14 appearances and leads the league with a 1.89 goals against average and a .929 save percentage.

A seven-time All-Star and eight-time Gold Glove winner, Scott Rolen was picked on 297 of 389 ballots cast by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America for 76.3%.

That made his modest 10.2% debut the lowest first-ballot percentage of a player later elected; the previous mark had been 17% in 1970 by Duke Snider, who was voted in with 86.5% in 1980.

Rolen will join Fred McGriff, elected last month by the contemporary baseball era committee, as the Class of 2023 inducted July 23 in Cooperstown.
