The Bearcats opened the contest with short strikes from Jack Dahlgren, Colt Straka, and Treyven Beckman but opened up scoring with three pointers by Ben Johnson and Beckman. Despite the early hot-start, Benson would not go away easily as sophomore Brandon Jarmon had a career day starting early with seven fast first quarter points. Three other Benson scorers contributed points, but the Bunnies trailed 20-19 entering the second after Johnson hit a buzzer-beater three to conclude the first.

Kearney found more of a defensive game in the second, as their offense slowly fizzled but did keep Jarmon in check as he added seven more points. The Bearcats scoring run late in the second quarter gave Kearney a halftime lead up 42-30.

As the Bearcats aimed to start hot out of halftime, Kearney could not anticipate another scoring explosion putting up 29 points in the third period. Triples rained from three different Bearcats, while Ben Johnson looked near impossible to defend. Benson kept pace, but ultimately was blown out in the final two quarters as Kearney improved to 13-4 with a 93-64 victory.
