KEARNEY – The Tri-City Storm dropped a home game to the Waterloo Black Hawks by a final score of 2-1 Friday night at the Viaero Center. Trevor Connelly netted Tri-City’s lone goal in the loss. The Storm will return to action tomorrow night in another home matchup against the Black Hawks. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm CT.
Waterloo’s Miko Matikka netted the only goal of Friday’s 1st period on a breakaway. The goal was scored with less than three minutes to play in the opening period, and was assisted by Gavin O’Connell. Tri-City outshot Waterloo 11-9 during Friday’s 1st period, but trailed by a single goal entering the 2nd period.
The 2nd period ended with Waterloo retaining a one-goal lead after each team failed to score a goal. The Storm outshot the Black Hawks 10-5 in the middle period, and trialed by a 1-0 score entering Friday’s 3rd period.
Garrett Schifsky scored his fifteenth goal of the year at 8:18 of the 3rd period to give Waterloo a 2-0 advantage in the matchup. The goal was assisted by Jaedon Kerr and Gavin O’Connell. The Storm scored the final goal of Friday’s game with a six-on-five attack with fifteen seconds remaining in the 3rd period. Trevor Connelly netted his seventh goal of the year to bring Tri-City within one goal of Waterloo’s lead. The Storm was unable to net a game-tying goal in the final seconds of the matchup, and dropped the contest by a final score of 2-1.
Cameron Korpi recorded the loss in goal for Tri-City after stopping 19 of Waterloo’s 21 shots on net. Emmett Croteau turned away 25 of the Storm’s 26 shots on net to pick up the win in goal for the Black Hawks. Tri-City dropped to 18-16-1-3 in the loss.
Tomorrow’s game will serve as the Storm’s “First Responders Night” presented by All American Sewer & Drain. Tri-City will wear specialty jerseys that will be auctioned off following the game. Proceeds from the postgame auction will benefit the First Responders Foundation. $10 tickets will be available for purchase at the Viaero Center Box Office for tomorrow’s matchup between the Storm and the Black Hawks.
