KEARNEY BASKETBALL SWEPT BY SILVERHAWKS; POSTSEASON BEGINS NEXT WEEK:

The Kearney Bearcats were swept by Lincoln Southwest on the road Friday night, as both teams fell despite strong starts in the opening quarters. 

The girls fell 51-44 while the boys dropped the 63-50 contest. Full recaps are available at KGFW.com.

The Bearcat girls are placed in the A-5 District and will host Papillion-LaVista South on Wednesday at home. 

 

HUSKER BASEBALL FALLS IN SEASON OPENER:

Nebraska suffered a 7-3 setback in its season opener at San Diego on Friday night.

The Huskers had three runs on five hits and didn’t commit an error, while the Toreros totaled seven runs on 10 hits and had one error. The Big Red left 11 runners on base Friday night, compared to USD’s six.

Nebraska and San Diego continue the series today, with first pitch set for 7 p.m.

 

HUSKER WOMEN’S HOOPS HOSTS IOWA, READY TO ‘PACK THE VAULT’:

The Nebraska women’s basketball team returns to Pinnacle Bank Arena on Saturday for its special Pack PBA event on Play4Kay Day against No. 7 Iowa.

Tip-off between the Huskers (14-12, 6-9 Big Ten) and the Hawkeyes (21-5, 13-2 Big Ten) is set for 1 p.m.

Well over 11,000 tickets have been sold for Saturday’s game, promising a Pinnacle Bank Arena women’s basketball record crowd. Nebraska’s PBA record is 9,750 fans at the first game in arena history against UCLA (Nov. 8, 2013).

Jaz Shelley hopes to help the Huskers snap a three-game losing streak. The guard is coming off a career-high 37-point effort at Minnesota on Wednesday.

HUSKER VOLLEYBALL ANNOUNCES SPRING MATCH AT CENTRAL CITY:

The Nebraska volleyball team will play its 2023 Spring Match presented by FNBO against Wichita State at the new Bison Activity Dome in Central City on Saturday, April 29.

Tickets will go on sale to the public in person only at the main entrance of the Central City Performing Arts Center (2815 17th Avenue) at 8 a.m. on Monday, April 10

A select number of reserved courtside seats will be for sale ($27), while most of the tickets for sale will be general admission ($12) and standing room only ($12)

The Bison Activity Dome, with a capacity of 2,098, opened in December 2022 and is home to Central City High School athletics. This will be the Huskers’ first trip to Central City and will be the eighth different town in Nebraska to host the spring volleyball match.
