An investigation is currently underway on the destruction of a communications tower south of Oxford.
On Saturday, Furnas County Sheriff’s Office received report that a communications tower had toppled and been destroyed south of Oxford.
A preliminary search indicated intentional damage to an anchor wire of the tower causing it to fall.
A Nebraska State Patrol forensic team was requested to locate and collect as much evidence.
Several items of evidence were seized and sent to be examined at the State Patrol crime lab.
The damage was estimated to be $575,000. Equipment on the tower belonging to Verizon Wireless, Oxford Fire and EMS, Southern Valley Schools, and the Furnas County Sheriff’s Office was destroyed.
Verizon created a temporary tower with limited coverage, Oxford Fire and EMS was relocated, and Southern Valley Schools, and the FCSO is still looking for a location.
