Grand Island Police have arrested a second suspect in an investigation into a homicide that happened at Fonner Park.
GIPD arrested second suspect Austin Kelly, 16, for his role in the robbery, assault and shooting which caused the death of Todd Scherer, 62, of Lincoln.
Further investigation found the victim and suspects knew each other and this was not a random attack. Property belonging to the victim was taken, some of which was later recovered by law enforcement.
The investigation is ongoing.
On Thursday, at 10 a.m. Grand Island Police and Fire Department responded to a call of an unconscious man not breathing at Barn R at Fonner Park. The man had an apparent gunshot wound on the torso and was identified as Todd Scherer, 62, of Lincoln. Next of kin was contacted. Police arrested the first suspect after help from other law enforcement and witnesses in the horse community coming forward. Police arrested Logan Horse Hunts, 20, of Wounded Knee, of South Dakota. He was lodged in Hall County Corrections.
