HUSKER BASEBALL WELCOMES NORTH DAKOTA STATE:
Nebraska steps out of conference play with a midweek matchup against North Dakota State tonight at Hawks Field.
First pitch between the Huskers and Bison is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. KGFW’s pregame begins at 5:30 PM.
The Huskers and Bison have met six times on the baseball diamond, with Nebraska holding a perfect 6-0 mark over North Dakota State. In their last meeting, Nebraska edged the Bison with a 4-3 win last season on April 20 in Lincoln.
Nebraska enters Tuesday night one win shy of No. 400 at Hawks Field, as the Huskers hold a 399-160-1 record at the home ballpark after the series win against Illinois last weekend.
SNOW ADJUSTS KEARNEY BEARCAT ATHLETICS SCHEDULES:
Kearney High Athletics will have several schedule adjustments for today’s scheduled games and through the rest of the week.
Bearcat Girls Soccer had their home matchup with Columbus postponed to April 21. Meanwhile, the Boys Soccer team had their contest in Columbus postponed to a later date.
Kearney Baseball postponed Wednesday’s home matchup with Grand Island due to conditions at Memorial Field, also moving Thursday’s home game with Lincoln East to Den Hartog Field in Lincoln.
Track and Field has also moved their varsity track meets for the Girls at North Platte to Thursday, and the boys will travel to Columbus on Saturday instead of the previous planned Friday meets.
Full adjustments can be found at KGFW.com.
HUSKER FOOTBALL PRACTICE COMMENTS – RHULE:
RHULE – RECRUITS, ALUMS, FAMILIES, FANS ARE CURIOUS:
Nebraska Football Head Coach Matt Rhule invited many new and familiar faces onto campus last Saturday for the Huskers third practice of the spring season. Rhule says he wants to keep the Big Red’s doors open…
Nebraska aims to lock in on the 25 recruits who visited this past weekend, including Husker legacy and No. 1 overall player Dylan Raiola.
RHULE – HUSKERS KEEPING DETAILED THROUGH PRACTICE GRIND:
Matt Rhule addressed the media after Tuesday’s practice and said his team has withstood some of the early monotony with winter practices after their fifth practice…
Nebraska will continue spring sessions until the April 22 Red-White Spring game at Memorial Stadium.
RHULE – LESS SPOKESPEOPLE, MORE LEADERS:
Matt Rhule, Nebraska Football head coach spoke during his Tuesday morning presser about how his squad is led by actions instead of words…
The Huskers have allowed media access to specific practice sessions for videos, photos, and interviews – a change from the previous regimes for spring practices.
RHULE – RAHMIR JOHNSON PLAYING LOUD:
Rahmir Johnson took a step back from offensive responsibility last season for the Big Red, but Head Coach Matt Rhule still believes in the offensive weapon…
The Huskers’ Rahmir was the team leader in rushing yards for a running back in 2021, but failed to crack playing time spots last season under Scott Frost and Mickey Joseph.
RHULE – ROLLINS COULD BE MAKING MOVE:
Gray jerseys have been added to the Husker practice sessions for the spring, as head coach Matt Rhule explains and points out a new rising star repping the new color…
Rollins – a sophomore from Creighton Prep originally recruited as a tight end – could add some needed depth to defensive coordinator Tony White’s new 3-3-5 defense.
RHULE – O-LINE NUMBERS ARE NOT CONCERNING:
Matt Rhule, Husker Football Head Coach, told the media Tuesday morning not to worry about the low numbers for the offensive line – and spoke up about several walk-ons making an impact…
Rhule added that he’s happy with the progress made so far by returning offensive line coach Donovan Raiola, who was retained as the only assistant from Scott Frost’s staff.
FORMER GISH STAR TROUDT ENTERS TRANSFER PORTAL:
Former Grand Island Senior High star and Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year Isaac Traudt has announced via Twitter that he is entering the transfer portal after a redshirt season at Virginia.
Traudt was the highest rated recruit in the Cavaliers’ Class of 2022, but opted to redshirt his freshman season according to Head Coach Tony Bennett.
In his post, Traudt stated that he will attempt to “pursue an opportunity closer to my loved ones.” Traudt had offers from in-state schools Creighton and Nebraska prior to his Virginia commitment.
Traudt will have four years of eligibility remaining.
BOURNE STEPS AWAY FROM NEBRASKA; HEADS HOME TO AUSTRALIA:
Nebraska forward Isabelle Bourne is heading back to her home country of Australia instead of playing a fifth season of college basketball. Bourne made the announcement on social media Monday afternoon.
Bourne is the program’s 36th 1,000-point scorer. She finished her Nebraska career with 1,221 points, which ranks 22nd on the program scoring list.
The 6-foot-2 forward helped the Huskers reach the 2022 NCAA Tournament, along with a pair of WNIT appearances.
FORMER HASTINGS COLLEGE, FORT HAYS STATE HEAD WOMEN’S COACH TONY HOBSON STEPS DOWN:
Fort Hays State University Women’s Basketball will have a new, but very familiar face as its leader going into the 2023-24 season. On Monday (Mar. 27) head coach Tony Hobson announced his retirement after putting together a phenomenal career record of 745-227 in 31 seasons as a collegiate head coach, including a 332-121 mark over 15 years that made him the winningest coach in Fort Hays State program history.
Assistant coach Talia Kahrs will elevate into the role of head coach.
The program has won 20 or more games in 12-straight seasons going back to the 2011-12 campaign, which is the longest-running streak in NCAA Division II.
The Tigers enjoyed six MIAA Championships under Hobson’s guidance, which included four regular season titles (2015, 2019, 2021, 2022) and two tournament titles (2019, 2022). He was the MIAA Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year four times (2015, 2016, 2019, 2021).
Hobson moved to Hastings College in 2001, where he put together a national powerhouse program at the NAIA level for seven years to 2008. Hastings won three NAIA national titles (2002, 2003, 2006) under Hobson’s guidance and won 211 games, reaching the 30-win plateau in five of his seven seasons.

Daimon Gardner has been named the USHL’s Forward of the Week, and Shaun McEwen has been awarded the USHL’s Defenseman of the Week. The occasion marks the first time in each player’s career they have won a USHL Weekly Award.
