KEARNEY – After leading the Kearney High School baseball team for five years, Coach Brad Archer has announced his retirement. Archer has served as the head coach since the team was formed in 2018.
He has had a successful career coaching the Bearcats with one district championship and two state appearances.
“Coach Archer has been a staple of Kearney’s baseball program since its inception and has left an indelible mark on the team, the school, and the community. His dedication to his players, his passion for the sport, and his unwavering commitment to excellence have made him one of the most respected coaches in the state.,” stated Ryan Hogue, KHS Assistant Principal and KPS Activities Director. ”Coach Archer’s impact on his players extended far beyond the field. He was a mentor, a role model, and a friend to generations of Kearney High School students. His influence on their lives will be felt for years to come.”
During his tenure as head coach, Coach Archer led the Kearney High School Bearcats to one district championship, and two state tournament appearances. His teams were known for their disciplined, fundamentally-sound approach to the game, and for their never-say-die attitude.

“I would like to thank Mr. Hogue for giving me the opportunity to be the first head baseball coach in Kearney High history. He has been a great supporter of the baseball program and gave us everything we needed to be successful,” said Coach Archer. “I would also like to thank my assistant coaches for their time and effort over the last five years. Last but not least the players that I have had the opportunity to work with on a daily basis. Their commitment to our program has been outstanding.”

It is and has been an honor as Activities Director of KPS to work with Coach Archer these past five years. Coach Archer has been an assistant football coach for KHS for 40 years and is a retired teacher. Archer taught PE, Health, and Strength from 1984 to 2017.
The search for a new head baseball coach at Kearney High School will begin immediately. In the meantime, the school is committed to maintaining the high standards of excellence set by Coach Archer, and to continuing the proud tradition of Kearney High School baseball.
