LINCOLN – The Bearcats stole a late lead from Lincoln Northeast in the sixth inning, claiming the 3-2 victory at Den Hartog Field as Kearney earned their third win on the season. Click here to listen to the broadcast replay.

Kearney (3-7) scored three runs off of six hits with no errors. The Rockets (5-5) fell with two runs scored despite seven hits and no errors.

The pitching was strong for both squads, as Kearney’s Aidan Poppe and Brodie Arnold struck out ten total batters as Arnold’s five K’s came in the final two innings. Poppe is credited with the victory.

Kearney opened up an early lead when Kegan Brand had an RBI single in the second inning, extending Kearney to a 2-1 advantage. After Northeast tied the game tied the game in the bottom of the fifth, the Bearcats had a sacrifice fly from Griffin Novacek to score in the top of the sixth.

Arnold handled business from there, retiring three conesecutive batters in the bottom of the sixth then adding two more strikeouts in the final frame.

Kearney travels to Grand Island for a triangular on Thursday at Ryder Park battling Norfolk and the Islanders.
