Kearney Police Department arrested a suspect following a standoff.
According to KPD, on Saturday at 7:35 a.m., officers from the Kearney Police Department responded to a domestic violence call for service at Centennial Apartments.
Officers identified the suspect as Ryan Fuentes,35, of Kearney. Fuentes has a known criminal history, including weapons violations and was
currently wanted on outstanding arrest warrants for felony domestic assault and felony flight to avoid arrest.
Patrol officers attempted to contact Fuentes, however, Fuentes did not respond to officers or come out of the apartment. Fuentes was known to be alone in the apartment at that time and reported to be armed with a knife.
For the protection of the public and law enforcement the Kearney/Buffalo County Emergency Services Unit (ESU) was activated at 9:00 a.m. ESU members responded to the scene.
Lengthy attempts to contact, deescalate, and negotiate with Fuentes were unsuccessful. Trained members of the ESU introduced less lethal chemical munitions inside the apartment and Fuentes was taken into custody without further incident at 11:10 a.m.
As a precaution, Fuentes was transported to CHI Good Samaritan for medical treatment. Following medical release, he was arrested and jailed for first degree false imprisonment, Terroristic threats, possession of a deadly weapon during commission of a felony, 3rd degree felony domestic assault, resisting arrest, and obstructing a peace officer, as well as the unrelated felony arrest warrants. He was lodged at the Buffalo County Jail.
The 36-year-old female victim in this case sustained minor injuries. There is no ongoing threat to the public at this time.
The Kearney Police Department was assisted by the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, Kearney Volunteer Fire Department, and Good Samaritan EMS.
