KEARNEY – Kearney High School won first in the Class A NSAA and NSCS Multi-Activity Student Award.  This award recognizes students in grades 9-12 who participate in at least three NSAA-sanctioned activities during the academic year.  The top 4 schools in each class with the highest number of multi-activity students are awarded.

This school year, 2022-2023, Kearney High School and Norfolk High School tied in the Class A rankings.Kearney High School had 159 students earn this honor, 21 students more than Norfolk High School. KHS won this award in 2021 and was runner-up in 2022.

“We are incredibly proud of our KHS students,” said Ryan Hogue, KPS Activities Director and KHS Assistant Principal. “To have such a large number of students who participate in three activities is a statement about their dedication and hard work in our NSAA-sanctioned athletic and activity programs.  These young men and women are incredibly motivated to represent themselves, our school, and our community throughout the school year. I am extremely proud of these student athletes and student activity participants at Kearney High.  Go Bearcats!”

Hogue explained that with Kearney High School adding girls/boys bowling and girls wrestling for the 23-24 school year, our percentage and numbers should increase even more next year.

Each high school student who participates in at least three NSAA activities will be recognized and awarded a certificate of achievement by the NSAA and the Nebraska State Colleges. Activity participation is tracked using student eligibility lists submitted to the NSAA by each member school.

The top schools in four classes will be determined based on the percentage of multi-activity student award winners compared to the total number of students in grades 9-12.  These high schools will be presented with a banner at the NSAA State Soccer Championships in May to display at their school.

“Kearney High School has an incredible student population,” stated Jeff Ganz, KHS Principal. “Involvement in activities and athletics has a direct correlation to success during High School and beyond.”
