OMAHA – The Thursday Jo Dusatko Invite hosted by Omaha Central at Burke Stadium showcased the talent the Kearney High Girls Track and Field team possesses, taking the top spot over the twelve competing schools finishing with a team high 108 total points.
The Kearney boys finished in seventh totaling 44 points with some of the team traveling to the Kansas Relays in Lawrence for competition this weekend.
The Bearcat girls claimed top spots in three events: the girls 4×800 relay finished first with a 10:29.21 time, Haidyn Skeen earned the farthest discus throw at 125-02, and Kyah Hazard was the top spot at pole vault clearing 10-06.00.
Another notable finishes included: Abigail Burger and Sam Stava ending second and third in the 1600m run, Kelsey Hatcher finishing third in the 300m High Hurdles, Blaire May and Ava Moore finishing third and fifth respectively in the 800m, Stava and Darin Brockmeier both in the top six in the 3200m, and the 4x400m relay two seconds off the top spot just being edged by Lincoln Southeast.
In field events, Avery Franzen and Haidyn Skeen were second and third in the shot put, Kiara Dutenhoffer was third in the long jump, Alexa Jacobsen was third behind Skeen in the discus, and Emma Talbert was third in the triple jump.
The Kearney boys had Fredrick Harbols finish first in the high jump clearing 6-02.00.
Notable finishes for the Kearney boys included: Sam Nachtigal finishing second in the pole vault clearing 13-00.00 as teammates Ayden Nelson and Trevor Baird were fourth and fifth, Asher Endorf and Ben Cumpston were sixth and seventh in the high jump, and Baker Bertrand ended second in the shot put while Riley Isaacson and Kendall Kleen were fourth and fifth.
