HUSKER BASEBALL TAKES DOWN NORTHWESTERN:
Brice Matthews and Max Anderson homered, while the Nebraska bullpen pitched 5.2 scoreless innings, as the Huskers posted an 8-3 win vs. Northwestern on Friday afternoon at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park.
Nebraska (19-11-1, 5-2 Big Ten) scored eight runs on eight hits, while Northwestern (5-23, 3-4 Big Ten) had three runs on four hits and a pair of errors.
Nebraska and Northwestern resume the series tomorrow at Hawks Field, with first pitch set for 2:02 p.m.
BEARCAT BASEBALL DROPS HOME STUNNER AFTER LATE TIGER HOMER:
The Kearney Baseball team took their fourth loss by one run in the eighth inning against Fremont Friday evening at Memorial Field.
A home run by Fremont’s Brandt Phillips gave the Tigers a 3-2 victory and dropped the Bearcats to 6-11 on the season.
The Bearcats contest with Hastings has been officially postponed due to weather and field conditions. Kearney will wait to travel to Millard North on Monday.
STORM DROP OT HOME DECISION:
The Tri-City Storm dropped a 4-3 overtime decision Friday night at the Viaero Center.
Alex Bump, Artemi Nizameyev, and Trevor Connelly each netted a goal for the Storm during the matchup. Tri-City dropped to 32-19-4-4 overall on the season, and will host the Buccaneers tonight for the team’s “Community Night” game.
Puck drop for tonight’s rematch in Kearney is scheduled for 7:05pm CT.
NEBRASKA SOFTBALL RUNS PAST HOOSIERS DESPITE DELAY:
The Nebraska softball team (28-13, 8-4 Big Ten) opened the three-game series with a 12-2 five-inning run-rule victory over Indiana (31-13, 9-3 Big Ten) in Bloomington on Friday night.
The Huskers got out to an early 7-2 lead before the game was delayed for nearly two hours due to weather in the middle of the second inning. The Big Red did not slow down when play resumed, adding five more runs while holding IU hitless after the delay.
Nebraska was dominant on offense, recording 15 hits including six Huskers who finished with two or more hits. Sydney Gray led the NU offense, finishing 3-for-4 with a homer, three runs and two RBI. Billie Andrews added three hits and two runs while Katelyn Caneda added two hits and four RBI.
The Huskers return to action Saturday, April 15, at 1 p.m. (CT) in Bloomington for game two of a three-game series against Indiana.
LOPER WRESTLING QUALIFIES TWELVE FOR SCHOLAR ALL-AMERICANS:
Twelve members of the Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team have earned Division II Scholar All-American honors from National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).
In order for a student-athlete to qualify, he must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale, with that benchmark at 3.25 for those who qualified for the 2023 NCAA Championships and a 3.00 for those who were All-Americans at the NCAA’s. Additionally, a student-athlete must have competed in four dates of competition.
