KEARNEY – A score in the 63rd minute off a header by Kearney’s Brayden Treffer pushed the Kearney Bearcats to 2-0 on the year over their Central Nebraska rival Grand Island Thursday night, as well as securing the Heartland Athletic Conference Silver Bracket championship at Kearney High School.

The Bearcats controlled the game throughout most of the contest, having more shots on goal and playing on the Islanders half of the field throughout the majority of the contest.

GISH had some chances late in each half to take the lead or tie, but the Islanders could not cross through and were shutout.

Kearney is now 11-2 on the year and hits the road to Columbus on Saturday for a rescheduled matchup against the Discoverers.
