KEARNEY – The Bearcat Baseball team followed a stellar double-play by junior Karter Lee to push ahead of Bellevue East, improving to 10-11 on the year with a 4-2 win over the Chieftains at Memorial Field on Tuesday evening. Click here to listen to the broadcast replay.

The Bearcats entered Tuesday’s contest winners of three in a row, including two wins to claim their home triangular on Saturday. Bellevue East hoped to get back to their winning ways, falling to Omaha Westside on Monday.

Kearney opened the scoring in the first inning with Griffin Novacek grounding out for a run. Rhett Mundorf was efficient on the mound, earning the win in five innings of work with two runs allowed.

The fifth inning brought Bellevue East back to a one run game, as Kearney surrendered a 3-1 lead to one run after Bellevue East scored in the top of the fifth, however Kearney scored a run to keep the game at two runs heading into the final two frames.

With Brodie Arnold in relief, the sixth inning had Lee’s tremendous play. A bunt laid down the first base line was covered by Arnold off the mound, as Lee kept the toe on the bag to force out one runner and fired to third for third baseman Kaleb Larson’s tag out to complete the two-out.

Kearney closed out the game for their tenth win on the season.

Kearney (10-11) won on four runs with six hits and one error, while Bellevue East (12-13) fell with two runs on eight hits and no errors.

The Bearcats return to Memorial Field battling Hastings in a rescheduled matchup at home on Wednesday. KGFW’s pregame is set for 2:45 PM with first pitch at 3 PM. Listen to the contest with Austin Jacobsen on the call.
