PAPILLION- The No. 2 seeded Kearney Boys Soccer team had life and the lead heading into the midway point of the second half, but ultimately gave up the tying score and winning goal to state leader Colin Macke for Papillion-LaVista South as the Titans earned the A-6 District title winning 3-2 on Wednesday night in added time. The Bearcats entered the evening at 13-3 and aimed to keep their postseason moving ahead after taking down Bellevue West on Saturday 2-1. Papillion-LaVista South handled business Saturday, downing Omaha Northwest 4-1.

As the top seed in the district, the Titans hosted the contest at the Papillion-LaVista Stadium at Foundation Field. The game kicked off with a bang, as Papio-South wasted no time putting a score on quickly with speed from forward Quinten DeWitt (6′).
The Titans would hold their lead heading into halftime as Kearney was unable to complete a set play into the net.

Kearney had new life in the second half, firing early and often and pushing the pace at the Titans. The new found energy and strategy worked, as Colt Straka (50′) tied the game off a long throw in from Brayden Treffer to tie the game at 1-1. Straka would sling the arrow and strike again, taking a 2-1 lead (54′) just a short time later.

The Bearcats luck would run out as Macke would head in a goal from the top of the eighteen (65′) to tie the contest at 2-2. Each side had opportunities prior to the end of regulation, instead sending the game into added time.
The first half of overtime moved quickly as each squad had set pieces and shots on goal. The Titan’s Macke however used his skill and speed to bully in a score in the last minute of the first overtime period (89′) to give Papio-South a lead they would never relinquish.
Kearney (13-4) ends their season as District A-6 Runner-Up.
