The Class A and B State Track and Field Championships are currently underway at Omaha’s Burke Stadium. Field events have wrapped for the day, as running events for long distance relay finals and sprint preliminaries are in action.

LOPER WOMEN’S GOLF TIED FOR ELEVENTH AFTER DAY ONE:

The 56th-ranked Nebraska Kearney women’s golf team saw all five players shoot between 74 and 78 on the first day of the 2023 NCAA Division II Championships Tuesday in Eureka, Mo.

The start of a long week was delayed by two hours due to the weather. The top eight teams after Thursday’s third round advance to a match play bracket.

UNK’s 303 has them in that race as it is just eight strokes out of fourth place. The Lopers also are ahead of five Top 41 teams including Central Region rivals Augustana and Henderson (Ark.) State.

UNK tees off at 8 a.m. today with no rain expected the rest of the week.

UNK TRACK TO SEND FOURTEEN TO NCAA OUTDOOR MEET:

Fourteen members of the Nebraska-Kearney track and field team (four women and 10 men) have qualified for the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships in Pueblo, Colo.

The three-day meet will be May 25-27 at the Colorado State-Pueblo Thunderbowl.

UNK has three in distance running events, two each in the hammer, high jump, javelin and pole vault, one in the discus and one qualified relay.

Full qualifiers can be found here.

SAN ANTONIO WINS WEMBANYAMA LOTTERY SWEEPSTAKES:

Victor Wembanyama is set to follow in the footsteps of David Robinson and Tim Duncan, and the San Antonio Spurs are ready to welcome the French phenom.

The Spurs hit the lottery jackpot on Tuesday, landing the No. 1 pick and the right to draft one of the most highly touted prospects in NBA history.

At 7-foot-3 and with the ability to shoot like a wing player and pass like a point guard, the 19-year-old Wembanyama is expected to make an immediate impact.

CFB VIDEO GAME ALLOWING PLAYERS TO EARN MONEY OFF LIKENESS:

EA Sports will allow every eligible FBS player to have their likeness represented in the college football game that’s scheduled to launch next summer.

The players who opt in will receive compensation, the amount of which hasn’t been finalized. Those who don’t opt in will have a generic name and avatar in their place.

In the past, EA Sports was unable to use specific names but would use clear identifiers for each player.
