STATE TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS DAY TWO BEGINS FOR CLASS A&B:

Day One of the Nebraska State Track & Field Championships at Omaha’s Burke Stadium wrapped yesterday.

In the opening round, Millard West leads the pack in the Class A boys with 28 total points. Kearney ended at 14th with 5. In Class A girls, Papillion-LaVista South totaled 23 points as Kearney is tied for 12th with 6. 

In Class B Boys, Omaha Skutt Catholic has a slight edge at 18 points with Hastings in second at 16. Finally in Class B girls, Holdrege is in second at 23 total points behind Norris’ 25. Gothenburg is tied for third with 15 and Northwest in fifth at 12. 

Day 2 action begins with field events at 9 AM and all final running events set for today at 1:30 PM. Unified events begin at 1:30 PM.

LOPER WOMEN’S GOLF THIRTEEN SHOTS BEHIND EIGHTH HEADING INTO DAY THREE:

The 56th-ranked Nebraska Kearney women’s golf team is sitting in 12th place (609) after the first two days of the 2023 NCAA Division II Championships in Eureka, Mo.

The 18-team field, along with eight individuals, began a 54-hole tournament at Fox Run G.C. (par 72/6,087 yards) on Tuesday. The top eight teams after the third-round advance to a match play bracket.

UNK shot a 303 on Tuesday to be tied for 11th. UNK is ahead of five Top 41 teams including Central Region rival Augustana and home standing Missouri-St. Louis. Ninth-ranked Cal State San Marcos is in eighth place with a 596. 

NEBRASKA BASEBALL STARTS FINAL REGULAR SEASON SERIES AT PURDUE:

Nebraska wraps up its regular-season with a three-game series on the road at Purdue on Thursday-Saturday May 18-20 in West Lafayette, Ind.

Thursday’s series opener is set for 5 p.m. CT, while Friday’s first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT. The series finale between the Huskers and Boilermakers is set for 1 p.m. CT on Saturday.

Nebraska holds a 17-10 advantage over Purdue in the all-time series, including a 15-5 record against the Boilermakers as Big Ten foes.

The Huskers have made two trips to West Lafayette since joining the Big Ten and hold a perfect 6-0 record against Purdue on the road.

KGFW’s pregame begins today at 4:45 PM.

CFB VIDEO GAME ALLOWING PLAYERS TO EARN MONEY OFF LIKENESS:

EA Sports will allow every eligible FBS player to have their likeness represented in the college football game that’s scheduled to launch next summer.

The players who opt in will receive compensation, the amount of which hasn’t been finalized. Those who don’t opt in will have a generic name and avatar in their place.

In the past, EA Sports was unable to use specific names but would use clear identifiers for each player.
