HUSKER BASEBALL ENDS SEASON IN BIG TEN TOURNEY; ANDERSON AND WALSH NAMED ALL TOURNAMENT TEAM:

Nebraska scored twice and brought the go-ahead run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth but couldn’t plate the tying run in a 4-2 season ending loss against top-seeded Maryland in the Big Ten Baseball Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Omaha.

Nebraska ends the season with a 33-23-1 record.

Nebraska’s Max Anderson and Will Walsh were named to the 2023 Big Ten Baseball All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the tournament on Sunday afternoon.

Anderson hit .444 at the plate with a tournament-high eight hits in four games. The junior had one double, an RBI, two runs scored and was walked twice. Anderson was 4-for-5 in an elimination game against Michigan State to become the first player in the country to reach the 100-hit mark this season.

Walsh went 2-0 in 10.2 innings of work in the tournament. Walsh posted a 0.00 ERA and eight strikeouts while allowing just five hits.

Maryland’s Nick Lorusso was named Most Outstanding Player after leading the Terrapins to the tournament title and a perfect 4-0 record on the week. He hit the walk-off home run to down Nebraska on Thursday night.

COLORADO IN TALKS TO RETURN TO BIG 12:

With the latest round of realignment having slowed to a crawl after a tumultuous two years, it appears as it may be close to picking up steam again. Colorado has been in “substantive” talks with the Big 12 about possibly joining the growing league.

While a move out of the Pac-12 is not assured, Colorado is performing due diligence to determine whether to return to the conference it once called home. The Buffaloes, like the rest of the Pac-12, remain in wait-and-see mode regarding a new media rights deal that has yet to be solidified.

It is expected that Colorado would receive an equal media rights share ($31.7 million, beginning in 2025) to join the Big 12, making the move even more attractive. Colorado is a Big 12 legacy program having played in the old Big Seven, Big Eight and Big 12 from 1948-2010.
