Home Federal scored in the bottom of the fourth inning after a Gage Gannon single brought in a run, claiming an early lead in what was a pitching duel between Kearney’s Bryce Andersen and Grand Island’s Cohen Nelson.

However, the game flipped on a near controversial call where the Runza Seniors fell down with two outs in the top of the fifth inning, then put runners on second and third after back-to-back hits. Nolan Smith appeared to avoid a wild pitch in the batter’s box, bringing in the tying score. Instead, Smith was called to be have been hit by the pitch, sending him to first with two outs against Kearney.

Bryce Andersen ended the controversy as he launched an RBI single to score the tying run. The game was all Kearney after, with Jase Blattner bringing in two runs and Garrison Burns also adding two runs off of a double – all in the fifth inning in back-to-back-to-back batters.

Kearney would close out the win, winning with five runs on seven hits and two errors while Home Federal scored one run on five hits with four errors.
