NUGGETS CLAIM FIRST NBA TITLE WITH GAME FIVE WIN:

The Denver Nuggets outlasted the Miami Heat 94-89 in an ugly, frantic Game 5 that did nothing to derail Nikola Jokic, who bailed out his teammates with 28 points and 16 rebounds on a night when nothing else seemed to work.

Jokic became the first player in history to lead the league in points (600), rebounds (269) and assists (190) in a single postseason. Not surprisingly, he won the Bill Russell trophy as the NBA Finals MVP.

The Heat – who survived a loss in the play-in tournament – became only the second No. 8 seed to make the finals.

OKLAHOMA SOFTBALL STAR, PAPILLION NATIVE BAHL ENTERS PORTAL:

Jordy Bahl, a Papillion native and top college softball pitcher, entered the transfer portal Monday.

Bahl has won two national championships with Oklahoma the past two seasons.

In 2023, the ace pitcher had a record of 22-1 with an ERA of just 1.09. She helped lead the Sooners to the title this season, while capturing the Women’s College World Series MVP award.

Bahl has not yet announced her transfer destination, although she stated she has “decided to return home” to Nebraska in her announcement via her personal Twitter page.

KEARNEY LEGION BASEBALL BACK AT HOME; HOST HASTINGS:

The POST 52 Juniors host the Hastings Johnson Imperial Homes Braves at 5 PM with the Kearney Runza Seniors facing Hastings Five Points Bank to follow. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 PM.

HUSKER LEGACY RECRUIT RECEIVES CAMP OFFER:

Quinn Clark had grown up a Huskers and Indianapolis Colts fan due to his late father, Ken Clark, wearing both uniforms. Quinn was in front of Nebraska’s football staff with a chance to show what he could do.

During the Matt Rhule Nebraska Football camps over the past weekend, Clark was pulled aside by the Big Red Head Football Coach to be offered a scholarship.

The Nebraska offer follows a couple from home-state FCS programs Montana and Montana State, which offered at the start of February.

NEBRASKA MEN’S HOOPS ASSISTANT SELECTED TO BASKETBALL SYMPOSIUM:

University of Nebraska men’s basketball assistant coach Adam Howard was selected to participate in the 2023 TopConnect Basketball Symposium taking place in Orlando, Fla., this week. Howard is one of 38 Division I men’s assistant coaches selected for the 2023 event.

In its sixth year, TopConnect develops educational programming that allows these top assistant coaches to hear from a wide variety of successful leaders and speakers.

Howard is in his second year at Nebraska and helped the Huskers posted their best record since 2019. In Big Ten action, NU went 9-11, NU’s highest total since 2018. Before joining the Husker staff, Howard also coached at South Alabama, Troy, Tennessee, Southern Miss and Morehead State.
