KEARNEY – After tying the contest in the fifth inning, the Kearney Runza Seniors aimed to break through and earn a home victory on Fan Appreciation night at Memorial Field. Instead, Hastings Five Points Bank plated the leading run in the top of the sixth and earned the 4-3 victory Tuesday night. Click here to listen to the broadcast replay.
Kearney (8-9) dropped the home matchup with three runs scored on six hits while allowing three errors while Hastings earned four runs on six hits and no errors.

Hastings Five Points Bank had earned a 5-1 win at Duncan Field earlier in the season, claiming the victory back on May 31. It was a similar situation as the prior matchup, with Hastings’ Creighton Jacobitz starting and throwing a complete game.
Five Points Bank was on the board early in the first inning, scoring Cameron Brumbaugh and Evan Rust after a Brumbaugh and Elijah hit.

Kearney kept within reach with a complete day from Bryce Andersen on the mound, but several errors allowed Hastings to keep ahead of the Runza Seniors.
Enter the fifth inning, when the Kearney infield quickly moved through three batters for Hastings then began their own batting barrage. With two outs and a runner on, Kearney added a second runner to then send Karter Lee to bat. Lee smashed a two RBI triple towards center field, followed by an RBI single from Nolan Smith to tie the contest.
However, Chance Vertin singled in the sixth to break the tie and give Hastings the victory.
Jacobitz earned the victory on the mound for Hastings as he surrendered six hits and three runs over six and a third inning while striking out seven and walking one. Andersen takes the loss for Kearney going six and two third innings giving up four runs on six hits while striking out four.

Kearney is now on the road Wednesday for a doubleheader at Norfolk. First pitch times at 1:30 PM and 3:30 PM.
