NORFOLK – The Kearney Legion Senior Baseball team moved their record above .500 with back-to-back wins while sweeping Norfolk on the road Wednesday afternoon.
GAME ONE:
Despite falling early, Kearney rallied to earn a 5-2 victory in game one of the Norfolk doubleheader.
The Runza Seniors earned the win with five runs scored on seven hits with no errors. Norfolk dropped the opening contest scoring two runs on six hits and no errors.
Kearney took a lead in the bottom of the fourth with Nolan Smith nailing a home run to left field bringing in two runs while Quinn Fosters’ sacrifice fly scored another.
Jacob Hansen collected the win for Kearney on the mound allowing six hits and two runs over seven innings while striking out two.
GAME TWO:
The Runza Seniors of Kearney swept Norfolk on the road with a nail-biter of a finish in Game Two, earning the 4-3 win.
Kearney broke above .500 by scoring four runs on eight hits and one error while Norfolk fell on three runs scored off of five hits and one error.
Norfolk was on the board early in the third inning as Ethan Synovec drew a walk and scored a run. Meanwhile, Hansen doubled aiding Kearney to tie in the top of the fourth.
Enter the top of the fifth inning, as Kearney’s Bryce Andersen drew a walk and scored a run. That was followed by a Hansen single to extend Kearney’s lead 4-1. Despite a late Norfolk rally, Kearney would withstand to improve to 10-9 on the year.
Derrick Nonhof earned the win for Kearney as the reliever surrendered two runs on two hits in four innings as he struck out one. Quinn Foster earned the start for the Runza Seniors, giving up two hits and one run over two and two thirds innings while striking out three and walking four. Brodie Arnold earned the save for Kearney.
Kearney awaits their matchup on Sunday battling Scottsbluff at Memorial Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM.
