HUSKER FOOTBALL ADDS DENVER-AREA OFFENSIVE LINEMAN:

Nebraska picked up the commitment of Landen Davidson, a 2024 three-star offensive lineman from Broomfield, Colorado.

Davidson received a Husker offer on June 11 following a camp inside Memorial Stadium, and he quickly set up an official visit to Lincoln for this past weekend. The 6-foot-4, 315-pounder liked what he saw and decided to pull the trigger on a commitment.

Davidson projects as an interior lineman at the college level. He’s shown he has explosiveness for a 315-pounder, clocking in at 4.91 seconds in the 40-yard dash while at a Tennessee camp earlier this month.

Davidson becomes the third offensive lineman in the Huskers’ 2024 class, joining three-stars Gibson Pyle of Texas and Jake Peters of Iowa.

HUSKER FOOTBALL PICKS UP NORTH CAROLINA COMMITMENT:

Add another intriguing defensive back to the mix for Nebraska’s 2024 recruiting class: Cuthbertson (N.C.) High School standout Evan Taylor has committed to the Huskers.

Taylor is Nebraska’s fourth commitment in the past two days as he joins Texas athlete Braylen Prude, Kansas defensive back Callen Barta and Iowa offensive lineman Jake Peters who all committed on Sunday.

At 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds, he showed his athleticism as a track athlete, running an 11.34 100m dash this spring. In his junior season, Taylor was a two-way player as a receiver and cornerback. In addition to making 10 tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery defensively, Taylor also added 38 catches for 528 yards and seven touchdowns on offense.

TOMINAGA SELECTED TO JAPAN PRELIMINARY ROSTER:

Nebraska guard Keisei Tominaga was one of 25 players selected to Japan’s preliminary roster for the FIBA Basketball World Cup released Monday.

Tominaga earned All-Big Ten honors in 2022-23, averaging 13.1 points per game while shooting 50.3 percent from the field and 40 percent from 3-point range. He totaled 22 double-figure games last season, including nine 20-point games.

This will mark his second appearance with the Senior National Team, as he played in seven games last summer, averaging 15.9 points per game while shooting 39 percent from 3-point range. He had 33 points, including eight 3-pointers, in a loss to Australia in the 2022 Asia Cup quarterfinals.

NEBRASKA WOMEN’S GOLFER CLAIMS AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP SPOT:

Nebraska’s Kelli Ann Strand fired a three-under-par 69 on Monday to win the USGA Qualifier in Sundre, Alberta, Canada, capturing a spot in the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship later this summer.

Strand, an All-Big Ten freshman for the Huskers in 2023, recorded birdies on No. 1, No. 4, No. 9, No. 11 and No. 15 to go with 11 pars and a pair of bogeys on her way to her 69 (-3) at Sundre Golf Club. Strand defeated Canadians Lauren Kim (70) and Leah John (70) by one stroke. Kim joined Strand in qualifying for the U.S. Women’s Amateur, while John will be the first alternate.

The 123rd U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship will be held at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles, Calif., Aug. 7-13.
