A Hastings man was sentenced to 33 years in prison on child pornography charges.

On Tuesday in federal court, Joshua Sund, 42, was sentenced to 400 months in prison for two counts of production of child pornography.

Sund will also serve 10-year supervised release and ordered to pay $3,000 which will go towards a fund for victims of these types of crimes. There is no parole in the federal system.

The case on Sund began in November 3, 2021, when a concerned individual who purchased a laptop from Sund, contacted the Hastings Police Department about videos found on the laptop.

The videos depicted what appeared to be Sund engaging in sexually explicit conduct with a prepubescent minor. Law enforcement obtained a search warrant and forensically downloaded the videos. The investigation identified Sund as the man in the videos.

There were seven videos located on the laptop, which depicted Sund engaged in sexually explicit conduct with the prepubescent minor on five separate occasions spanning a period of approximately a year and a half.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood and investigated by the Hastings Police Department and FBI.
