RUNZA SENIORS PREPARE FOR DAY TWO OF CWS PREP TOURNAMENT:
The Kearney Runza Seniors fell in their opening contests of the Creighton Prep CWS Tournament on Wednesday, evening their record to 11-11 on the year.
In Game One, Kearney held a lead throughout much of the opening contest at Millard South, but a gruesome bottom of the sixth doomed the Runza Seniors in 12-5 loss.
Kearney fell by scoring five runs on six hits with one error while Millard South won with twelve runs on fourteen hits and one error.
In Game Two, Kearney dropped 9-6 to Rapid City, SD.The Runza Seniors dropped the matchup scoring six runs on seven hits and three errors. Rapid City won with nine runs on twelve hits and one error.
Kearney now awaits their next matchup tonight, taking on Bryant, Ark. at 7:30 PM at Millard South High School.
HUSKER ATHLETICS MOVES TO UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT UMBRELLA:
University of Nebraska System President Ted Carter will now assume UNL’s seat on the Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors, which is the board that oversees the policies, budget, operations and commissioner of the Big Ten Conference.
The move was part of a greater motion during Thursday’s Board of Regents meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
This move officially seats Carter as the new direct supervisor of athletic director Trev Alberts. Carter and Alberts worked together in the hiring of head football coach Matt Rhule last fall.
NEBRASKA FOOTBALL ADDS OMAHA NORTH DEFENSIVE BACK:
Nebraska added a third in-state player to its 2024 recruiting class. Omaha North defensive back Donovan Jones officially announced his commitment to the Huskers after taking an official visit to Lincoln this week.
Jones was offered by Nebraska this past Saturday after a strong showing at NU’s Friday Night Lights Camp. That same night, he earned an offer from Wyoming at the camp. Matt Rhule and the Husker staff followed with an offer the next morning.
He’s now the sixth defensive back recruit in the class of 2024.
HUSKER WOMEN’S HOOPS SETS LOADED HOME SCHEDULE:
The Nebraska women’s basketball team will face a loaded 2023-24 home schedule that will include eight games against 2023 NCAA Tournament teams. The Huskers announced their non-conference schedule on Thursday in conjunction with the unveiling of the conference home and road plays by the Big Ten.
Nebraska will open its 2023-24 regular season at Pinnacle Bank Arena against Northwestern State on Monday, Nov. 6. Nebraska also takes on Wyoming, Alcorn State, and Creighton in November.
Nebraska’s home Big Ten schedule will feature nearly all of the conference’s top teams from a year ago, including NCAA runner-up and Big Ten Tournament champion Iowa. The Huskers also will face Big Ten regular-season champion Indiana at Pinnacle Bank Arena, along with 2023 NCAA Elite Eight qualifier Maryland. NCAA Tournament qualifiers Michigan, Illinois and Purdue also make the journey to Lincoln this season, while Minnesota, Northwestern and Rutgers round out Nebraska’s home schedule.

HUSKER MEN’S HOOPER MAST ADDED TO NETHERLANDS NATIONAL TEAM:
Nebraska forward Rienk Mast will look to help the Netherlands qualify for the 2024 Olympics later this summer, as he has been invited to join the senior national team for the first time since 2019.
Mast, a 6-foot-9, 240-pound forward, will be with the national team from late July until following the team’s FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Istanbul (Aug. 13-20). The schedule includes national team camp as well as exhibitions against Israel (Aug. 4) and Ukraine (Aug. 7). The teams in the Netherlands pool in Istanbul include Sweden (Aug. 13), Belgium (Aug. 14) and Croatia (Aug. 16). The semifinals are set for Aug. 18 with the finals set for Aug. 20.
Mast will be making his second senior National Team appearance and first since 2019. He played in the 2019 Basketball World Cup qualifier averaging 4.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game in three contests. He also played for the Netherlands at the U18 and U16 levels earlier in his career.
Mast is the second Husker selected for his nation’s national team camp this week, joining Keisei Tominaga, who was named to Japan’s roster on Monday.
NEBRASKA WRESTLING RELEASES NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE:
One of the premier wrestling tournaments and four home duals highlight Nebraska’s 2023-24 non-conference wrestling schedule announced on Thursday.
The Huskers will open the season on the road at North Dakota State on Saturday, Nov. 4.
NU wraps up the month of November hosting Campbell on Friday, Nov. 10 and traveling to the Navy Classic on Saturday, Nov. 18.
To kick off the month of December, NU will look to defend last year’s third-straight and fifth overall Cliff Keen Title in Las Vegas, Dec. 1-2. On Saturday, Dec. 16, the Big Red will return home to host South Dakota State for a rematch of last year’s dual at SDSU.
The Huskers will then begin the new year with a tri-meet at home against Wyoming and Northern Iowa on Saturday, Jan. 6. To close out the non-conference season, NU will hit the road again for a matchup with Pac-12 powerhouse Arizona State on Sunday, Feb. 25.
