Saturday Morning Sports – Runza Seniors Split Day Three at Prep Tourney, Husker Football Lands Pair of Bell. West Receivers, Former Husker Pitcher Called Up by Padres, CWS Finals Schedule, Sports Scores and Schedules

RUNZA SENIORS SPLIT DAY THREE AT PREP TOURNEY:

The Runza Seniors ended their day 1-1 on Friday, winning over Sheridan, Wyo. but falling to Fremont on Day Three of the Creighton Prep CWS Tournament at Millard South High School. 

Against Sheridan, Jase Blattner drove in six runs on two hits, leading the Kearney Runza Seniors past the Wyoming squad 10-2.

Kearney (13-12) fell against Fremont with only one run scored off of three hits and one error. Fremont earned the victory with three runs and eight hits with one error.

The Runza Seniors are back in action today facing Creighton Prep 2 at noon from Millard South High School. Full game recaps from each contest of the tournament can be found at KGFW.com.

HUSKER FOOTBALL LANDS PAIR OF BELL WEST RECEIVERS:

Friday morning, the Huskers landed two more top targets with in-state recruits Isaiah McMorris and Dae’vonn Hall out of Bellevue (Neb.) West joining the fold. 

They are commits 16 and 17 in a class (the eighth in the last week) that shoots up five spots to No. 17 in the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings. McMorris and Hall join their quarterback Daniel Kaelin who is one of the jewels of this group.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Hall chose Nebraska over an offer list that included Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas State, Minnesota, Missouri, Penn State and Tennessee among others. 

McMorris is the No. 71 wide receiver in the country according to 247Sports and the No. 4 prospect in the state of Nebraska in the 2024 class. 

FORMER HUSKER PITCHER WALDRON CALLED UP TO PADRES:

Former Husker Matt Waldron is set to become the 39th Nebraska baseball player to reach the Major Leagues after his contract was selected by the San Diego Padres on Friday.

It marks the first MLB call-up for Waldron, who is scheduled to make his first career start against the Washington Nationals tonight at 7:40 p.m. CT.

The Omaha native has played with Triple-A El Paso since June of 2022 after spending time in the minor league since 2019.

A four-year letterwinner with the Huskers, Waldron capped his time at Nebraska with a 21-16 record and 3.48 ERA in 62 career appearance.
