KEARNEY BASEBALL EARNS ARCHER WIN No. 1400 IN FINAL HOME GAME:
The Kearney Runza Senior Legion Baseball team took care of business in their regular season finale at Memorial Field on Tuesday night, dominating Grand Island U-Save Pharmacy in a 12-1 victory.
The win was No. 1400 in the career of Head Coach Brad Archer, who is set to retire from his head coaching role after forty three years in the program.
Kearney (17-17) earned the win with twelve runs scored on fourteen hits with no errors. Grand Island U-Save fell, scoring one run on four hits and four errors.
DISTRICT BRACKETS RELEASED FOR A7 SENIOR, JUNIOR LEGION BASEBALL:
The A7 District Senior and Junior Legion Baseball brackets were released on Tuesday afternoon. Area teams will compete Friday through Tuesday, as Tuesday’s contest will determine the district champion.
Games will be held at Grand Island’s Ryder Park for the Senior Tournament and at North Platte’s Bill Wood Field for the Junior Tournament.
The Runza Seniors of Kearney are the No. 4 seed and face Lexington Pinnacle Bank on Friday at 1 PM. The POST 52 Kearney Juniors are also the fourth seed and take on Grand Island Tom Dinsdale at the same date and time in North Platte.

KEARNEY LITTLE LEAGUE PLAYER TO REPRESENT NEBRASKA AT HOME RUN DERBY:
Hagan Gates, from Kearney Little League, will represent Nebraska in the 2023 T-Mobile Little League Home Run Derby, which takes place this Sunday, July 16th at T-Mobile Field in Seattle, Washington.
The Kearney native finished in the Top Ten in the West Region of the Home Run Derby during the Kearney little League competition. The local derby was separated into three rounds in which Hagan hit the most in every round competing against area athletes.
This finish placed him to compete in Seattle, where the Top Four finalists will then travel to Williamsport.
This is Gates’ second performance at the event, as he traveled last year to the All-Star matchup for the Little League Home Run Derby in 2022.
LARSON TO COMPETE IN 2024 OLYMPICS:
Jordan Larson helped USA Volleyball win its first Olympic gold medal in 2021. She wants to experience that feeling again in 2024. Larson plans to play in the Summer Games in Paris, which will mark her fourth Olympics.
Larson has continued her volleyball career overseas and is currently with Team USA at the Volleyball Nations League in Texas. Larson is one of the sport’s icons as a 3-time Olympic medalist and MVP of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. She’s won seven additional gold medals between competitions at the World Championships, FIVB Nations League, and World Grand Prix.
Larson, a native of Hooper, Nebraska, is a member of the Nebraska Athletics Hall of Fame. She joined the Cornhuskers’ full-time coaching staff last month. Larson said she has John Cook’s full support to continue her playing career while also coaching.
HUSKER WRESTLING ANNOUNCES 2023-24 CONFERENCE OPPONENTS:
The Big Ten conference announced the opponent rotation for the 2023-24 wrestling season on Tuesday.
The Huskers will host Illinois, Iowa, Michigan and Purdue, and travel to Minnesota, Northwestern, Penn State and Wisconsin.
