KEARNEY RUNZA SENIORS BEGIN POSTSEASON AFTER WEATHER DELAY:
The A7 District Seniors tournament waited an extra day before kicking off action at Grand Island’s Ryder Park. Due to rain showers Friday, all contests have been postponed a day as the tournament will resume with their regular schedule today
The Runza Seniors are seeded fourth in the A7 Senior Legion District, facing fifth seeded Lexington Pinnacle Bank at Ryder Park. The winner will face Hastings Five Points Bank on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 PM.

POST 52 EARNS FIRST ROUND WIN IN DISTRICT TOURNEY:
The Kearney POST 52 Juniors were able to close down Grand Island Tom Dinsdale in the opening round of the A7 District Junior Legion Baseball tournament at Bill Wood Field on Friday night, earning a 9-1 victory.
POST 52 (24-15) won, scoring nine runs on eight hits with one error while Grand Island fell, scoring one run on two hits with three errors.
Kearney continues their run in the A7 Junior tournament tonight, facing Grand Island Five Points Bank at 7 PM.
INCOMING HUSKER WBB FRESHMAN SET TO LEAD AUSTRALIAN FIBA TEAM:
Nebraska incoming freshman Jessica Petrie leads Australia to the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup in Madrid, Spain, July 15-23.
The 6-2 forward from Gold Coast and the rest of the Australians will battle the hosts from Spain at 1:15 p.m. (CT) on Saturday in their opening game of Group A competition at the Sport Complex Espartales in Alcala de Henares. Australia enters the tournament ranked No. 3 in the world, while Spain is No. 4.
Petrie, who celebrated her 18th birthday in May, competed for the Australian U16, U17 and U18 national teams last summer.
NORTHWESTERN NAMES NEWLY MINTED D-COORDINATOR INTERIM HEAD COACH:
Northwestern named David Braun as its interim head coach for the 2023 college football season on Friday.
Braun has been on campus at Northwestern for only the past seven months. Pat Fitzgerald hired Braun to be his defensive coordinator in January but now Braun will take on an even bigger role after Fitzgerald’s dismissal that followed an investigation into hazing allegations in the Wildcats’ program.
Braun spent the past four seasons as the defensive coordinator at North Dakota State, helping the Bison win FCS national titles in 2019 and 2021. In 2021, he was named the FCS Coordinator of the Year.
He has never coached at the FBS level.
