NORTH PLATTE – The Kearney POST 52 Juniors fought hard but ultimately fell short against top-seeded Grand Island Five Points Bank in the second round of the A7 Junior Legion District tournament on Saturday night.
Kearney (24-16) fell while scoring three runs on six hits with one error while Grand Island earned the win, scoring five runs on seven hits with two errors.
The POST 52 Juniors scored first, getting on the board from a Gunner Demlit single that added one run. A single by Talyn Lewis in the third inning extended the Kearney lead to 2-0.
Grand Island would score three in the bottom of the third, after a walk scored one run then a home run added two more.
Kearney tied the game in the fifth with a Chase Bentz single, but Grand Island would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth and never look back taking the advantage off of a Camden Walker double.
Rydge Jackson took the loss for Kearney, working two thirds of an inning giving up two runs on three hits and striking out none. Lewis started on the mound for POST 52, surrendering three hits and three runs over four and two-third innings.
