DALLAS – Miu Takahashi fired a one-over-par 72 to tie for third at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Qualifier in Dallas to claim a berth in the 123rd U.S. Women’s Amateur.
Takahashi, a junior-to-be on the Nebraska women’s golf team in 2023-24, advanced on the strength of the best front nine in Monday’s round with a 33 (-2), before closing with a 39 (+3) on the back of the 6,329-yard, par-71 layout at the Shady Valley Country Club.
Takahashi’s tie for third gave her one of the six qualifying spots out of Dallas, joining fellow Japanese golfer Sera Hasegawa from Baylor, who won the qualifier with a 70 (-1), while Georgia Southern’s Emma Von Hoffmann took second with a even-par 71.
Oklahoma golfer Meagan Winans matched Takahashi’s 72, while SMU’s Ellie Szeryk and Bentley Cotton from Texas tied for fifth at 73 (+2) to complete the group of six qualifiers.
Takahashi becomes the second Husker on Nebraska’s 2023-24 roster to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles, Calif., Aug. 7-13. All-Big Ten Husker Kelli Ann Strand was Nebraska’s first qualifier after winning the USGA Qualifier in Sundre, Alberta, Canada with a 69 (-3) earlier this summer.
