BELLEVUE – The Kearney Runza Seniors opening round matchup with Creighton Prep Five Points Bank went the way of the Junior Jays, fielding a loss for Kearney 5-0 on Saturday evening. Click here to listen to the broadcast replay.
Kearney (21-20) fell scoring no runs on five hits while having three errors. Creighton Prep earned the win with five runs on ten hits and recorded no errors.

Creighton Prep was up early in the top of the first thanks to three singles, as Mitchell Collins scored a run for Five Points Bank early. Creighton Prep would then add three more runs in the inning, extending a 4-0 lead that Kearney would face until the top of the seventh.
Five Points Bank added their fifth and final insurance run in the seventh inning, taking the final score and the win for the Omaha-based team.
Derrick Nonhof fielded the loss for Kearney despite a valiant effort, going six and two-third innings giving up five runs – four earned – on ten hits with four strikeouts and one walk.
Nolan Smith led Kearney with two hits with three at bats. The Runza Seniors also piled up six walks in the contest.
Creighton Prep moves on to the winner’s bracket of the American Division Playoffs at Bellevue West, and drops Kearney to the consolation bracket. The Runza Seniors await the loser between Millard South and Bellevue West and will begin action at 1 PM from Allred Field on Sunday.
