This week many areas of the Midwest are suffering from high temperatures and heat advisories.
With the high temperatures is also an increased risk of heat related illnesses.
Folks can take the following precautions to stay safe.
- Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, especially drinks that replace lost salts and minerals
- Wearing light and breathable clothing
- Planning outdoor activities during cooler times of the day
- Self-pacing and taking breaks when necessary
- Taking cool showers or baths
Those at risks of heat-related illnesses include older adults age 65+, young children, those with medical conditions, outdoor workers, athletes, and pregnant women.
