UNK was voted to finish fifth in the conference’s coaches poll after an 8-3 season last year.
HELD – SELLING THE MIAA IS EASY IN RECRUITMENT:
First year UNK Football Head Coach Ryan Held spoke about the adjustment in recruiting for the Lopers at Tuesday’s MIAA Media Days…
Held and the Lopers start their season on August 31 in Edmond, Okla. against Central Oklahoma.
SPIES – HELD IMPRESSED LEADERS WITH PHONE CALL:

Spies was speaking at the MIAA Media Days in Kansas City on Tuesday morning, where the Lopers were picked to finish 5th in the conference.
DAVIS – HELD’S ENERGY MOTIVATES LOPERS:
UNK Quarterback TJ Davis is looking for the Loper Football team to make another return to the postseason, and said at Tuesday’s MIAA Media Days it’s due to first year Head Coach Ryan Held…
The Lopers finished 8-3 in 2022 and last made the postseason in 2021 when Davis finished as the Harlon Hill Trophy runner-up.
LOPER FOOTBALL PICKED FIFTH IN COACHES, SIXTH IN MEDIA POLL:
Tuesday morning UNK Football was voted as tied for fifth with Central Oklahoma in the MIAA Preseason Coaches poll and sixth in the media poll.
The Lopers went 8-3 last year, just outside of playoff and bowl contention.
UNK Football starts the 2023 season on the road against Central Oklahoma. Kickoff is set for Thursday, August 31 in Edmond.
HUSKERS RANKED FIFTH IN BIG TEN MEDIA POLL:
A Big Ten Media poll released Tuesday morning, setting Nebraska for a fifth place finish in the West Division. Wisconsin was voted the favorite, followed by Iowa, Minnesota, and Illinois.
For the first time in four years, Ohio State football is not the preseason favorite to win the Big Ten Conference.
Michigan earned a comfortable margin as the projected conference champion. Of the 37 voters from across the league, 27 picked the Wolverines to win it all, compared to eight for Ohio State.
A third East Division team — Penn State — took the other two. Every voter followed through by picking their East Division winner as the overall champ.
Big Ten Media Days begins today in Indianapolis with Nebraska set to speak on Thursday morning.
REPORT – HARBAUGH EXPECTED TO RECEIVE FOUR GAME SUSPENSION:
Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh and the NCAA are discussing an agreement that would see him serve a four-game suspension as a part of the investigation into potential recruiting violations within the program.
Negotiations between the two parties broke down because Harbaugh “has refused to sign any document or publicly state that he was ever untruthful with the enforcement staff.”
The NCAA cited four Level II violations in its draft of allegations. Among other things, they claimed Michigan staffers met with a pair of recruits during a COVID-19 dead period and had analysts involved in on-field workouts.
Harbaugh’s return would coincide with a matchup on the road against Nebraska.
CHARGERS QB HERBERT SIGNS FIVE-YEAR EXTENSION:
Justin Herbert is set to become the NFL’s highest-paid quarterback by annual salary, agreeing to a five-year, $262.5 million extension with the Los Angeles Chargers on Tuesday.
Herbert’s total value and $52.5 million average per season surpasses the $260 million, five-year extension ($52 million average) Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson signed three months ago. Herbert will get $218.7 million guaranteed, which is second to the fully guaranteed $230 million deal Deshaun Watson signed with Cleveland in 2022.
Herbert is the second member of the 2020 draft class to sign a big extension, after Philadelphia’s Jalen Hurts signed a five-year extension worth $255 million.
