NEBRASKA MBB TRANSFER FACES TAMPERING CHARGE IN IOWA GAMBLING PROBE:

One of Nebraska men’s basketball’s transfers is in hot water from his previous stop.

Ahron Ulis is facing a tampering with records charge. The charge comes as the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation probes into sports gambling at colleges in the Hawkeye State, including Iowa.

The court document says nearly half of the 1,850 bets were placed before Ulis reached 21, the legal betting age in Iowa. The alleged wagers totaled “over $34,000”.

Allegedly at least one wager was on an Iowa sporting event, with more than 400 on NCAA-sanctioned football and basketball games.

Ulis transferred to Nebraska earlier this year. He is currently with the team in Spain, but not participating in games.

RUMOR – BIG TEN EYEING MORE PAC-12 SCHOOLS FOR EXPANSION:

The Big Ten dealt a critical blow to the Pac-12 when it poached USC and UCLA last year as both Los Angeles schools will join the conference in 2024. Now it might finish the job by picking over what’s left of the conference in a new rumored expansion.

Per reports, Big Ten officials have “begun exploratory discussions about expanding membership to 18 or even 20 teams.”

Oregon and Washington would be targeted if the conference expanded from 16 to 18 members, but if more expansion is on the horizon – Cal and Stanford could enter the frame.

SUSPENDED FARMER HEADS TO TRANSFER PORTAL FROM HUSKERS:

Nebraska defensive back Myles Farmer has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. Farmer was recently suspended from the team.

A junior in 2023, Farmer started 11 games for the Cornhuskers in 2022. He finished second on the team with 73 tackles, a career high.

Head Coach Matt Rhule stated after Monday’s opening practice of fall camp that the safety had been suspended from the team due to a breaking of “ the standard” of the program.

HUSKERS’ PUNTER BUSCHINI ADDED TO RAY GUY AWARD WATCH LIST:

Brian Buschini was one of 50 punters nationally named to the preseason watch list for the 2023 Ray Guy Award, announced on Wednesday. The Ray Guy Award is presented annually to the nation’s top collegiate punter in the FBS, and Buschini made the watch list for the second year in a row.

In his first season at Nebraska in 2022, Buschini averaged 44.0 yards per punt, a total that ranked eighth in Husker history and 25th nationally. He had 16 punts of 50 yards or longer, including a 74-yard punt against Wisconsin that ranked as the seventh-longest punt in school history.

Prior to Nebraska, Buschini spent three seasons at Montana from 2019 to 2021. In his final season with the Griz, Buschini was named the 2021 FCS Punter of the Year and a first-team All-American.

HUSKER HOOPS WINS IN FINAL SECONDS OVER VALENCIA ALL-STARS:

Eli Rice had a game-high 20 points, including three crucial free throws in the final 25 seconds, as Nebraska posted an 86-83 win over the Valencia All-Stars Wednesday evening.

Rice, a 6-foot-7 freshman from Gallatin, Tenn., made several winning plays in the final minute, as the short-handed Huskers secured their second win of the trip. With the score tied at 83, Rice grabbed a pair of offensive rebounds and was fouled on the second attempt with 18.8 seconds remaining. After missing his first attempt, he sank the second one to give NU a one-point lead.

The Huskers will wrap up their trip in Spain on Saturday when they play in Barcelona. Tipoff is set for Noon (central). Follow along on Husker social media channels for updates.
