NEBRASKA FOOTBALL UNVEILS FIRST SINGLE DIGIT JERSEY RECIPIENTS:

Nebraska football has a new tradition this fall.

First year Head Coach Matt Rhule has installed a new toughness meter in the form of single digit jersey numbers. The single digit uniforms, numbered zero through nine, will now be voted on by the team to the ten “toughest” members of the Big Red.

The first players with single-digit jerseys were unveiled Wednesday.

Senior wide receiver Billy Kemp IV picked the No. 1, safety Isaac Gifford is wearing No. 2, Luke Reimer is wearing No. 4 and quarterback Jeff Sims is wearing No. 7.

The honor is voted on by the team. More on this story at KGFW.com.

REPORT: BIG TEN TITLE COULD MOVE AWAY FROM INDIANAPOLIS:

The home of the Big Ten Conference Football Championship may no longer be solely Indianapolis.

Des Moines-based radio show “Miller and Condon” reports that future Big Ten title games will be played at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

The move is not expected to make Las Vegas the permanent home of the game, with games rotating back to Indianapolis.

The Big Ten Championship has been played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis since its inception in 2011. The league is coming up on the second year of a three year deal with Lucas Oil Stadium.

Beginning in 2024, the top two teams in the league standings will face off for the conference title.

FORMER HUSKER WRESTLER NAMED ASSISTANT COACH:

Former Nebraska wrestling legend James Green has been named a full-time assistant coach for the Husker wrestling program.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Green will join Manning, associate head coach Bryan Snyder and assistant coach Tervel Dlagnev ahead of the 2023-24 season.

As a Husker, the 2014 Big Ten Champion became just the second four-time All-American in school history as he placed seventh twice and third twice at NCAAs. On the professional side, he represented the United States on the World Team at the 70kg spot from 2015 to 2021, winning bronze in 2015 and silver in 2017.

MOUNTAIN WEST COULD ADD REMAINING PAC-12 SCHOOLS:

The fate of the remaining four members of the Pac-12 could depend on if Cal and Stanford are accepted by the ACC.

If Cal and Stanford join the ACC, there is “widespread expectation” that Oregon State and Washington will move to the Mountain West Conference, according to a report from ESPN.

If that does not work out, the American Athletic Conference would additionally be “willing to consider adding all four” as members.

The Mountain West announced its board of directors had met Monday night to discuss “all opportunities to strengthen the league, including through the addition of new member schools.”

HASTINGS BRONCOS MENS’ SOCCER No. 1, WOMEN No. 2; VOLLEYBALL PICKED SEVENTH:

The GPAC Preseason polls continue to roll out for Hastings College fall sports.

On Thursday, the Broncos Men’s Soccer program was picked as the top team in the preseason GPAC poll, ahead of Concordia and Midland respectively. The Broncos picked up eight first place votes compared to the Bulldogs three.

In the women’s poll, Jamestown led with seven first place votes but Hastings claimed five to earn a second overall spot.

Finally in the preseason volleyball poll released Wednesday, Hastings was voted to finish seventh as Jamestown led the way with five of the twelve first place votes.

Nebraska defensive back Malcolm Hartzog is learning his second defensive scheme in two years, but said during the second week of fall camp he’s excited about the new opportunities in coordinator Tony White’s new 3-3-5…
