GRAND ISLAND – On Aug. 22, 2023, at approximately 10:16 p.m., Hall County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Highway 281 north of Cedarview Road for a two-vehicle injury accident.
A preliminary investigation indicates a 2011 Kenworth, driven by Carlos Roberto Guerrero Gomez, 29, of Alliance, was traveling southbound on Highway 281 north of Cedarview Road preparing to turn west into a gravel lot when it was struck from behind by a 2018 Hyundai Sonata driven by Diana Dieken, 79, of Hastings.
Dieken was injured and transported by ambulance to Grand Island Regional Medical Center, where she was declared deceased.
Guerrero Gomez was uninjured in the collision. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Dieken wasn’t wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Next of kin has been notified.
An accident reconstruction team was called to the scene to assist in the investigation, which remains open
